I’m going to add “intimacy” to this list.

This might sound cynical but "resistance" and "community" (in some combination thereof) are quickly following "empowerment" (in various incarnations) in becoming meaningless discourse buzzwords in art / experimental culture / electronic & club music / LGBTQIA+ / PR email contexts at the moment.

As important as it may be, “care” is such a boring topic. It also seems to have legitimised “staying in bed” and “long, panning shots of manga figures on a windowsill” as somehow worthy of focus in art.

Sad to hear of the passing of Keith Christmas. One my fave artists from the the Brit Folk Blues > Acid Folk > 70s SSW pipeline. Start with “Forest and Shore”. I interviewed Keith a few years ago for a piece which never saw the light of day, if any publications would be interested now…

It’s a big honour to be featured in the latest edition of the always beautiful, hand-typeset, underground journal Terrascopædia. Phil’s labour of love is a thing of wonder and thanks to Jamie Etherington of the @fretboardjournal.bsky.social for the interview.

I watched a documentary about him recently, and that usually makes me warm to artists I’ve previously had little or no interest in. On this occasion it did the exact opposite. Confirmed my “wacky smart arse” suspicions. I make an exception for Hot Rats too though.

I’m fascinated by the cult of therapy and how it’s posited as the only route to “mental wellness” and ethical living. I’m sure it works for some, but as an expensive, privatised, privileged form of health care, the all too common chorus of “everyone should have therapy” feels tone-deaf and entitled.

Not 100% sure about Colin but Pete Beer is his real name. He was in Show of Hands.
