Indigenous communities deserve not only access to quality healthcare, but the power to shape the systems and decisions that affect their health and well-being. 🤎
Health equity also means recognizing the lasting impacts of colonization, displacement, and systemic inequities on Indigenous health, while respecting Tribal sovereignty and supporting community-led solutions.
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the histories, cultures, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples. Thread.

When the world reopened after early days of the pandemic, I worried that people who knew me from TV and virtual talks might be disappointed when they met me in person. It’s interesting how even when you’ve accomplished so much, you can still wonder if you’re enough.
Yesterday, a young Black woman working security stopped me after my panel and said, “Ma’am, you really are Black girl magic.”
In a room full of leaders and policymakers, hers was the impression that meant the most.
She saw me. I saw her. 🤎
Boston, I’m coming your way! 🤎

Got my flu and updated COVID vaccines this week. 💉❤️
Heading into respiratory virus season, just sharing one of the ways I’m taking care of myself.
This year, leading medical organizations, including AAFP, AAP, ACOG and IDSA, came together to issue evidence-based recommendations for COVID, flu and RSV vaccines based on an independent review of the latest science. Talk with your healthcare provider about what’s recommended for you.

Looking forward to joining the Milken Institute’s Patient Advocacy Forum in DC next week for a conversation about trust in healthcare, patient advocacy, and why patients’ experiences and voices must be part of how we build better systems.
I stopped playing the violin nearly 30 years ago.
This year, I picked it up again.
I thought I was returning to an instrument. Instead, I found myself returning to a part of me I hadn’t realized I’d left behind.
I wrote about it for Oprah Daily. ❤️🎻

I’ve been following the conversation sparked by Nikole Hannah-Jones’s recent essay about her daughter’s education, and I’ve been sitting with it a little before deciding whether I wanted to say anything. Thread.
I’ll be sitting with this one for a while.
For me, that means holding these stories with care while asking what our educational systems are doing for all of our children, especially Black children, and what it’ll take to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, belong, and thrive.
We can examine individual choices while recognizing that no individual family created these conditions, and no individual family can solve them. We can’t individualize a systemic problem.
Academic rigor and racial belonging should never be competing priorities, a child’s opportunities should never depend on how much time, money, knowledge, or access their family has, and our concern cannot end once our own children are OK.
