Before the referendum, Farage lied we need Brexit to be closer to the Commonwealth. Now we hear that Canada could become the EU’s first associate member and Australia is also seeking deeper ties with the EU. This is the reality of post-Brexit Britain. Present everywhere, but belonging nowhere.

We will not let them redefine Britain as angry, isolated and afraid. Britain should be liberal, internationalist and a beacon of democracy - a country that leads the world, not one that retreats from it. We want Britain. Not Trump’s oligarchic America with a Union Jack stuck on it.

Reform says it wants to take us back to “the country that was”. What a lie. They want to tear up institutions this country helped create, turn our backs on Europe and abandon the international order we helped build. That isn’t patriotism. It’s national vandalism.

It costs roughly £200K to show an ad to every adult in the UK on Insta, Facebook, X & Google. With £72m in crypto donations, Reform now has enough money to repeat this every week until 2029. Dodgy ads already shaped Brexit, we can't afford to let it happen again. We need to scale up our fight.

📩 Yesterday we went to Number 10 with a special delivery for the Prime Minister. Andy Burnham is our first PM to openly support PR. We know he can talk the talk. Now it's time for him to walk the walk. @compassoffice.bsky.social @unlockdemocracy.bsky.social @jowusunepaul.bsky.social

Reform has already polled at a level at which First-past-the-post could turn roughly three votes in ten into majority government ** Nearly 100 Labour MPs already support a commission into electoral reform. We need more to come out in support.

This is for people who might be disappointed that Count Binface lost in Clacton. Please don't. He won just 95 votes against Andy Burnham in Makerfield. In Clacton, he got nearly 100 times as many against Farage. Take that as a signal. Get your hopes up. Let's band together for the next fight.

So this by-election not only exposes the political tricks Farage is playing for his own benefit, but also highlights how people in some of the most deprived areas are being used for political gain. It is sad, utterly objectionable and reprehensible - but most of all, it is undeniably unpatriotic.

More strikingly, it is one of only two neighbourhoods in the whole of England that fall within the most deprived 10% on every one of the seven IMD domains: income; employment; education, skills and training; health and disability; crime; barriers to housing and services; and living environment.

A neighbourhood in Clacton constituency, the eastern part of Jaywick, was ranked the most deprived of all 33,755 neighbourhoods in England in 2025. It also ranked most deprived in 2019, 2015 and 2010.

Much of the coverage of the Clacton by-election has focused on Nigel Farage's self-serving and malign reasons for making this happen. But there is another part of the story that deserves attention: the severe deprivation experienced by some of the people living in the constituency.

Tactical voting in Manchester proves yet again that progressives are ruthlessly disciplined at the ballot box. And yet forcing people into temporary alliances under FPTP isn't true democracy. We don't just need workarounds; we need structural reform starting with Proportional Representation...
