The Justice Committee welcomes the Government's response on jury trial reform but warns that the plan to expand magistrates’ court capacity must be deliverable.

We have published the response to our Courts and Tribunals Bill report.

The Government's plan to expand magistrates' court capacity must be deliverable.“Ministers must demonstrate in more detail how the proposal to expand capacity in the magistrates’ court is deliverable. We are seeing backlogs in the magistrates’ courts already rising even before reforms are implemented. A clear plan to ensure there is capacity to meet increased demand is vital."

Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee Chair, Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, comments on reports of a ruling against Man City FC 👇

“The reports about the Premier League's findings against Manchester City FC have profound implications for our national game.
The extraordinary length and cost of this process raise serious concerns, and the affair again gives rise to questions about financial fairness across the football pyramid.
The matter must be allowed to take its course and due process must be followed, but I sincerely hope any further stages are completed as swiftly as is reasonably possible.”
