Thank you to Muckleshoot Chairman Donny Stevenson, Louie Gong, Representative Jayapal, and the Department of Neighborhoods for helping us honor the past, present, and future of Native Seattle.

@mayor.seattle.govOct 10, 2026, 4:05 AM

Seattle would not be Seattle without Native people. Today, we raised a new flag, designed by Louie Gong, in celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This flag flies to honor the Native peoples who have stewarded this region since time immemorial.

Fantastic news! It takes all of us – local, state, and federal leaders – to combat price gouging and corporate greed. So proud of our city’s leaders for this legislation!

Every Seattleite deserves the chance to pick up a book like that and decide for themselves. What’s a banned book that stayed with you? Drop it in the comments below.

@mayor.seattle.govOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Banned Books Week is a reminder that the freedom to read is something we protect, not something we assume. One of my favorites, The Grapes of Wrath, has been banned and challenged more than once, and it’s still one of the most powerful stories I’ve read.

A light blue poster features large blue text that reads, “A City That Reads Is a City That Leads.” Below it, smaller text says, “Banned Books Week, October 4–10, 2026.” In the lower left corner is the City of Seattle logo with the text “City of Seattle, Mayor Katie B. Wilson.” On the right side of the poster is a tilted book cover of “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, published by Penguin Classics. The cover shows an illustrated person standing on a landscape with earthy colors and a large yellow sun-like shape in the background.

Seattle just said no. It's the first U.S. city to bar big grocers from using your data and AI to charge you more than your neighbor, while keeping coupons and senior and veteran discounts intact. Congratulations to @mayor.seattle.gov and the City Council on setting the standard.

Seattle’s small businesses are the soul of our neighborhoods and help build a resilient, diverse economy for all. They employ our neighbors, invest in our communities, and make this city unique. So which small business is your favorite? Drop it in the comments!
