Thank. I’m pretty proud of that story. That whole series is actually about trauma and healing. The dragons are just for show ;)
Adult life is like "Having friends and hobbies prevents you from getting lonely, experiencing health problems, and developing dementia," and then adult life does absolutely everything it can to prevent you from having friends and hobbies.
The worst has gone unsaid: to 'use' LLMs to write flap copy, marketing copy, rejection notes (likely add proof reading/editing) and cover art: THEY HAVE TO FEED YOUR MANUSCRIPT INTO AI TO DO SO! ANY publisher of 'original novels' is GIVING OVER YOUR WORK! Egriegious. Copyright integrity is toast.
He spirals with self-hatred, and I don’t think he ever really recovers. He does, however, learn to live with himself over time and with help, and that’s sometimes all we can ask for
In facing Alan, Caleb breaks his word to keep him from escaping justice, and Alan throws that choice in his face. In the following books, even though everyone calls him a hero, even with the gods explicitly choosing him as a champion, he can’t shake what Alan said.
#AwesomeCharacters This is a huge part of Caleb’s story from the third Scaleshifter book onward. (Spoilers for Book Three in the reply)

She still doesn’t talk about her missions, but her marksmanship says a lot about what she did before she fled her government handlers.
But Mimic has been training since before she has memories to work for the CIA and other agencies to do undercover work. Her power is the ability to look like anyone else, so the rest of her job had to be learned by sheer, hard work.
#AwesomeCharacters This one goes to Jo, though the runner up is Mimic (both from The Supervillains’ Therapist). Jo is hyper-competent as the daughter of a superpowered mob boss who knows her brothers want her dead if she can’t stay useful to them.

Please be safe in FL. They must be expecting it to be bad if ~all~ Waffles Houses in several counties have been ordered closed till the storm passes. WH almost ~never~ close unless they expect it to be BAD.
i mean, we can totally count it 😂
Haha you know, as you do… 😂😂
🧵, but also I REALLY want to emphasize "the book is written the way it is for a reason." I sometimes see things like "I don't know if X was on purpose" and yes, yes it was. Unless it's an actual typo or some formatting accident it's on purpose. The author did that on purpose.
I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions. The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.
