Alright, I should now be in "mostly improvement" territory from this point. The masking fluid is now off, and I've put a second layer of transparent yellow on the sand areas. Still lots to do! (Second pic is just to show off the lovely granulation you get with these watercolours)

An in progress watercolour map. The sea colour is now less "bitty"Granulation of watercolour on the sea area.

Haha, it looks better with the extra wash of blue over the sea areas than it did the step before this. :) (And better again now I've done a third and mixed in a little turquoise.) Also: thank you :)

It's the first time I'm trying out this particular brand of masking fluid. But worst case: I start again šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

When you're going through the ugly phase of a project, it's fine to make it uglier 🤣 (It's just masking fluid — I needed to get my *really really* big (3 inch) brush out to get the sea washes built up without them going patchy. This way I don't need to worry about the coastline)

@montfordtales.comOct 11, 2026, 2:30 PM

Haha, it's for a GMless game so alas I must continue through the ugly middle and come out the other side. :) There's *always* an ugly middle. It's part of the process. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

🤣 I have reached the "ugly middle" stage on this map šŸ™Œ

Tomorrow (time willing) may be when I add colour. It makes progress! (I keep finding little bits of pencil to still erase.)

A little more time was spent on the map today (but then a bad migraine came calling 😭) Water is inked in blue (two line thickness). The black square is both a callout section for the port, and a useful scale setter for when I put a grid on top of it later when adding labels etc. :)

An in progress map on my drawing table. Rivers, lakes, and high & low tide marks are drawn in blue. Pencil shows topography lines.

That sounds perfect! Monte Cook often run demos of No Thank You Evil at cons, fwiw :)

We're going to @worldslair.bsky.social in London next month, and if you grab a ticket you can play in a TTRPG session with ME, where I run players through my Orbital Blues adventure VOIDLOCK TOMBSTONE... There's a session on Friday and Saturday cos I love playing games so much

I got a group of friends over to play No Thank You Evil with my kid. With three of us – ie two players – I think he felt a bit unsure, but with six of us (five players) he had a blast and contributed *so many* good ideas. Now the problem is getting everyone back together again šŸ˜‚

Once upon a time I'd get an enthusiastic YES to me reading to my son (I love doing all the voices). But now he only wants to read to himself 😭😭😭 I'm both extremely happy for him and sad that I'm not going to get to do that as often any more. (I still have hope šŸ¤ž)

We love to see it!

Also! Libraries can get ttrpg's from IPR at a discount! I had forgotten until I saw a library ordered one of my games in this sales report

No One Lives in Port Robert (Anymore) map progress. I'm figuring out all the topography atm. (I've recorded a bit of this, but not all of it because it's a lot of me muttering to myself as I work out the options šŸ˜‚)

Hi folks, I've got a brand new Hobonichi Techo 2027 A6 Original and cover I'm looking to part with. I love both the cover and journal but it's a bit small for me. Opened but unused, comes with the acorn charm and pen. £50, includes shipping. I'll ship to the UK only, sorry! DM me if interested.

Sold a few copies of Monster Truckers through Indie Press Revolution. That's a good feeling. I gotta keep screaming about Monster Truckers, it's a fun game and more people need to play it.

I am so, so sorry. You deserve all the hugs and compassion.

If you're using InDesign, I can try and help. If you're using Affinity, I'd be less helpful as it's been ages since I touched it (but there'll be others who could help, I expect). (I try and keep my Master's to stuff like page numbers & background colours/repetitive decoration šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø)

@montfordtales.comOct 8, 2026, 11:19 AM

Usually because the layer is locked *or* you want to edit something that's part of the page template and you need to release it so you can make changes. (If this is unwanted, I apologise! I saw frustration and wanted to help if I could. You're not going insane, it's just tricky sometimes.)
