New recycling bin came in a box. Took the recycling bin out of the box. Put the box in the recycling bin.

Onibaba is so good! Shindo's a great October director, time for me to watch it again

A bleak view from Pitchfork: the "platonic ideal" of music is a liar alone on the stage with no other players.

Geese did something similar with last year’s Getting Killed, their own neutron star of an album, gobbling up the tangled lineages of rock, punk, and drone music in New York City with the ravenous appetites of kids weaned on the infinite scroll. What Live at Carnegie Hall proves is that the more Winter jettisons, the closer he gets to some platonic ideal of music. It’s the perfectionist’s dream: no mixdowns, no producers or session players to misinterpret your ideas, restricted only by the speed of your hands.

Serpent's Path (2024) by Kiyoshi Kurosawa; Serpent's Path (1998) by Kiyoshi Kurosawa; Monkey Man by Dev Patel; Eyes of the Spider by Kiyoshi Kurosawa

A review for Monkey Man (2024):
You know the producers butchered the film when the title screen prompts you to watch the alternate opening and alternate ending, both of which are much better than the final cut.

The training sequence with Zakir Hussain is instantly iconic, and despite the strangling adherence to genre conventions the back nine kept waking me up with great moments.

A review for Serpent's Path (2024):
The updated script never misses an opportunity to explicate what was left implied in the original, plodding in place of pirouettes.

To me the point is that Anne Carson gets 12 million kroner and free publicity, which is as good a use for a long dead arms-dealer's fortune as any. If someone reads her Sappho or Euripides because this notice (and they will!), it's a positive. Don't have to assign the commitee authority beyond that.

Is it about music though, or is it just about industry? Personally the takeaway is that the Billboard Hot 100, brought to you by the Penske Media Corporation, is an imperial regime and should be treated as such.

What a coincidence, Bandcamp has been around since 2008 and allows you to pay artists directly for DRM-free music.
