The U.S.'s unjustified trade actions damage both our economies, no question. But we're attracting record investment, diversifying trade, building industry. While month-to-month job numbers will vary, the picture is clearer when we step back: Canadians are winning this trade war.

We live in a great country. Let's show ourselves and the rest of Canada how much it means with a strong showing. Get out and vote, and make sure everyone else does too. If we all show up, we know what the result will be. And good luck! 🫡 (8/8)

And how about Uncle Mitch's idea that separatism is leverage? Well the conversation itself is damaging to our social fabric and our economy. Let's just say there's a reason the Bank of Montreal is headquartered in Toronto. (7/8)

We've built an incredible country - one that enjoys a chart-topping reputation. That shows up in vibes, sure - but also in that we are the only G7 economy with a free trade agreement with every other G7 country. The maple leaf is a brand we're rightly proud of. (6/8)

Alberta oil production is also at record levels. In fact, Alberta oil production increased 34% from 2015-2024 while globally, production increased only 6%. (5/8)

That's some of the downside covered, but let's make sure the positive case is there too. This one might surprise Uncle Mitch: the average Canadian is wealthier than the average American. That's because we do a better job of supporting the middle class. (4/8)

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce released a report recently that talked about the economic hit: "The evidence is clear: separation would leave Alberta with a smaller economy, fewer workers, less investment and weaker public finances." (3/8)

Some Alberta separatism myths never die. Here's a column with a rebuttal to three: - No, we wouldn't be able to force the rest of Canada to build pipelines. - No, we wouldn't be wealthier. - No, it wouldn't make Alberta a conservative bastion. (2/8)

🇨🇦🍗 Are you thinking: "Oh man, I've gotta deal with Uncle Mitch spouting his Alberta separatism nonsense at Thanksgiving"? First: we salute you. It's important to talk to friends & family about the referendum, make the case for Canada. Second: A few resources for you. (🧵)

If we say we're going to “stand on guard for thee”, we can stand in line to vote. Advance voting in the Alberta referendum starts next week. Election day is October 19. Make a plan to vote and follow through. Your country is counting on you. 🇨🇦

Now’s the time. If you requested a special ballot, send your vote in and track that it was received using the link Elections Alberta gave you when they registered.

Send a strong message of support for our country. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This week we listed the west coast pipeline, Pacific Link, as a project of national interest. It reduces U.S. reliance, grows the economy and is part of a broader agreement with Alberta that includes 2050 net zero, industrial carbon pricing, CCS, methane reduction. It's how we build Canada strong.

But this is existential, this is about something core, and this is our discussion - not one that should involve anyone from the United States. (6/6)

@coreyhogan.caOct 3, 2026, 3:37 PM

Canada and the United States have been great allies and close friends and I do not want to brush all Americans - or even all Americans in the U.S. administration - with the same brush. Political operatives routinely work on and consult with elections on both sides of the border. (5/6)

@coreyhogan.caOct 3, 2026, 3:37 PM

But within a country is the key words. Americans should not engage themselves in the Alberta referendum. It would be no more appropriate than - I am sure you would agree - Canadians lending support to California secessionists. (4/6)

@coreyhogan.caOct 3, 2026, 3:37 PM

Now, do I believe California is about to separate? Of course not. What I believe is support for separatism is often a proxy for debates within a country. There are true separatists - in Alberta AND California - but mostly it is how people choose to express their frustration with a country. (3/6)

@coreyhogan.caOct 3, 2026, 3:37 PM

- This support level is not much changed over the last 40 years. - Polling shows American states with similar levels of stated separatist support. (2/6)

@coreyhogan.caOct 3, 2026, 3:37 PM

Today the Globe and Mail reports about American political operatives involving themselves in Alberta's referendum. This is, of course, wholly inappropriate. I want to provide some context to any American who sees an "opportunity": (🧵)

Great to join Tuesday’s Power Plays panel at the Energy Disruptors conference—where we discussed Canada’s opportunity to build more through clear, durable regulations, stronger east-west energy connections, and meaningful economic partnerships with Indigenous communities. Thanks for having me!

We have a responsibility to remember what happened, to learn from it, and to carry truth forward. Reconciliation is a process that we must all commit to and work towards—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. Every Child Matters 🧡
