The fact that there is now a Central European Conference on Wildfires (Dresden, Germany) seems a clear sign of change in fire patterns ... @interregeurope.bsky.social @interreg.eu

In Mediterranean ecosystems, fire-sensitive species live in rocky areas, not because they prefer them, but because they are fire refugia. Yet, sometimes fire is intense enough to get there, reducing the population size

Nice! Wish I had this article back in 2015-19 😏 when tracking mismatched phenology btwn Asclepias spp. & Monarch butterflies in NY state (justification for habitat conservation). Hard to find data on Asclepias emergence & flowering more than 5 yrs prior; historical data on Monarchs more available.

Muy recomendable este artículo en contra de la interpretación sesgada de datos sobre la alta incidencia de incendios en espacios protegidos. Dicho lo cual, nos queda la pregunta: ¿Cuánto queremos admitir que ardan y por qué causas?

Not everything is dire after fire. Mother plant exposure to fire subsequently enhances the size and germination of seeds.

Again, 'El Niño-driven'! These wildfires are fuelled by deforestation, land clearing, peatland drainage for palm oil plantations, and anthropogenic climate change. To say 'El Niño-driven' deviates from the actual causes. 🧪🌍🔥🌳🍁🦍

Some "fire lilies" are now flowering in the area burned 2 months ago: Leucojum valentinum & Narcissus obsoletus (Amaryllidaceae). As you can see, they are hysteranthous (ie, produce flowers before their leaves).
