The homeless millionaire.
He was a familiar figure to Galway residents, sitting on the same bench day after day.
When he died, it transpired he left behind an estate of €1.29 million.
I tracked down Victor Spaggiari’s family in Italy to understand why:

Yet again, the EU surrenders to Trump.

After facing pressure from the US State Department, @kajakallas.bsky.social's EU foreign service pulled out of a conference this week at the last minute – because one of the panels dared to discuss American disinfo in Europe.

The Paris teenagers are largely dressed like any 15 to 18-year-olds who went off to school that morning with their backpacks. But moving among them are the daredevils and instigators, with their faces concealed by balaclavas. The blackened detritus of a burnt bin and a rental e-bike lie to one side

The EU would be happy to have the UK back. The main condition I see would be to sort your issues out, ie no longer use the EU as a way of litigating internal divisions.

Where does the idea that the UK would have to be in Schengen and join the Euro come from? I personally don‘t see the EU insisting on that

Macron rearranged his schedule at the last minute to attend mass, getting in on the popular feeling and bumping the local mayor as host as Pope Leo proved an unexpected hit

...the pedestrianisation on the literal street where I live and most of my toddler's route to creche. Reading the manifesto was extremely personal, like: ok, you are campaigning for my kid to be more likely to be hit by a car each morning? That candidate was not elected.

Pedestrianisations and cycle lanes are often accompanied by huge controversy right up until they are implemented, and then they become enormously popular. Part of the reason is the positive change is so immediate and tangible. In the Paris mayor election this year, one candidate wanted to reverse...

Alone and fleeing scandal, a 23-year-old gave birth in a Catholic mother and baby home in 1917.
The surname she chose for her baby, ‘Prevost’, endured down the decades, becoming the name of her grandson, Pope Leo XIV.
