Not sure if biorxiv sends an update following preprint revisions, so I'll do it manually. We just updated this work. I believe people will find it interesting, and that we found something pretty cool. Please email me if you have comments/suggestions. Cheers, P

Cool way to study gap junctions in a maximally physiological context, outside of the retina

My blueskyless and twitterless friend Elise Savier has organized a conference for systems neuro of subcortical circuits: broad range of topics, great speakers and I am jealous of the location. Please repost and consider attending

Glad to see this is published. enjoyed the pre print. what we all want to know is how do granule cells develop this temporal basis. Presumably over learning, but how? Several have proposed mechanisms (diversity of presynaptic stp, ubcs, etc). Many thoughts! Too many for a tweet. Congrats!

One of my favorite “biologically accurate fictional details” is in Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” video where the Mermaid (played by Adu herself) sits at the bar and adds salt to her glass of water.

Congratulations to Grienberger Lab!!! Worth a read!

🎉 this paper is now out - we show how subicular plateaus are linked to reward locations. Congratulations to the whole team! www.cell.com/cell-reports...

Banger of a paper. Walter Heiligenberg also floated some of these receptive fields ≠ the whole story ideas back in the early 80s when he recorded from torus semicircularis of electric fish and found , well, broadly “tuned” neurons.

Wait, so the modern world cares about supervised learning? Turns out the cerebellum field was onto something all these years

Jianing’s got a good point here. We should also think about the ethological validity of experimenter vs subject trial initiation. Are we modeling flashcard performance or world-exploration?

There should be more discussion of how behavioral trials are initiated in experimental design. Many experiments impose trial onset at random, but recent work by @davidrobbe.bsky.social suggests that self-initiated trial times in rats follow a long-tailed Wald distribution: 10.1101/2024.05.31.596850

From my oscillations phase in grad school. Ok I’ll stop with the oscillation puns now, seems like we’re just going round in circles

I understand though. I too sometimes obsess over oscillations. The obsession waxes and wanes though, comes in periodic cycles

This is cool! Sounds like a hard task that I would not be able to perform. Will you be at auditory GRC? We should chat about that non-auditory activity in the IC that keeps popping up in the literature

There’s no scale bar, but if we guesstimate the size of the current from the surrounding NBA players I’d be worried about space clamp issues in this recording as well.

Welcome to the club of resigned Frontiers editors. I resigned from a Reviewing Editor position after the AI rat testes incident a few years ago.

We’ve all wanted to know the answer to this question for years. Congrats Aaron for figuring it out

Agentic coding is genuinely useful now, and there are some impressive reports of AI agents doing science. But how well and how reliably can they handle tasks scientists actually want to hand off, ones that bottleneck progress? How do we even measure that?? New paper🧵 arxiv.org/abs/2606.07718 1/10

Who was the A&R rep who decided Spasmolytic would be the single from Skinny Puppy’s seminal album Too Dark Park? Clearly this was the wrong call, Grave Wisdom is the superior song off the album. Ready to (amicably and non physically) fight anyone who says otherwise
