@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gy2 AM my son comes into my room to tell me that all the UPSes are screaming. Power is out. I report the outage, shut down some devices, and mute the alarms. By 4am the power comes on for 3 seconds... then goes off... Power company reports power is restored... so I report the outage again... i [ā¦]

My wife sent me that video, finally someone who is teaching the secret about modern music (ie. music since the 1700's or so). It's a scale that's uniform distances on a logarithmic scale for frequency (that is [ā¦]

@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyI get a call from what is probably my medical provider (the USC mafia) and the person says "Hi this is soandso from scheduling with USC can you please give me your name and birth date so I can proceed?" @dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyMy server isnt online but does at least boot. but I think its time to start, in parallel, beginning the process of recruiting people to participate in my #anarchistuniversity pod.
I say pod because I hope this university is eventually a large number of people organized into smaller groups that [ā¦]

@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gySo from my posts this morning, I'd say things are going really well. Yes, pepper has taken up a LOT of effort, but 2.5 months in we are seeing it all pay off with a dog that absolutely is doing well, and higher activity level for me and for cocoa and my wife. everyone is benefiting. My son went [ā¦]
@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyAlex and I had a meeting with his guidance counselor. We discovered the requirement for US history can be fulfilled by his ethnic studies class from last year, since the ethnic studies requirement itself doesnt kick in until later. This means one less class he has to take before graduation [ā¦]

@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyWhen you adopt a dog the dog people tell you "three days, three weeks, three months". The first three days you should expect the dog to be shut down in panic mode. Pepper wasn't like that but she was hyperactive in panic mode. Three weeks is where the dog should have come out of panic mode and [ā¦]
@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyIn the meantime, one thing I want to do is have either a mariadb or postgresql server with a lot of Census and worldbank and IMF and similar data and related things pre-loaded so that researchers in my "pod" (ie. research group using my server) can easily access comprehensive datasets about [ā¦]
@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyYunohost is there to handle things like forgejo, ghost, a simpleX server, or whatever, things that you want to use to collaborate online as web services.

@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyAll right #guix peeps, I know i'm kinda taking the hard route here. I could have just put #Proxmox on my under-desk server, been up and running months ago after a lot of pointing and clicking. I decided not to do that, in part because I don't want just one #anarchistuniversity server, I want [ā¦]
@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyYAAAAAS!!!!
#guix peeps. My #anarchistuniversity server is ONLINE with its strange stack of LVM + Cache + LUKS + btrfs raid.
The workaround was to create a shepherd service which depends on user-processes which simply does vgchange and cryptsetup manually at a later time. Then make /mnt/home [ā¦]

@dlakelan.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyIf, like me, you don't like shaving daily, consider using a straight razor such as the Dovo Shavette. You can buy a box of 100 blades from Derby for like $7 you can use one for a week or two if you clean it nicely before putting it away on a stand where it dries... So it's a couple years supply [ā¦]
