This is actually the one I meant to post. So now you get both.

An abstract artwork featuring soft, flowing shapes in shades of peach, orange, and brown, reminiscent of flower petals. The composition includes curves and a dark oval shape, creating a harmonious blend of colors and forms.

Went to see an exhibit of Fujio Yoshida’s prints at the Ringling Museum of #Art a few weeks ago. Her work reminds me to look more closely. I usually take in the entire flower instead of looking down inside of it. The one exception is dragon fruit #flowers. We […]

An abstract artwork featuring swirling shapes and vibrant shades of red and orange, along with subtle hints of blue. The composition suggests fluid movement and emotional expression. It looks like it’s be inspired by a closeup view of the interior or a flower.

The filmmaker just told me the that can also watch it for free via Projectr, if your local library has an account with them. NYPL has access.

A wonderful documentary film we saw at a film fest a couple of years that is now available to rent or own.

River of Grass is a present-day reimagining of Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s groundbreaking book, “The #Everglades: River of Grass,” (1947), which transformed the public’s understanding of […]

@johniecake.bsky.social It is fired to cone 5 (glaze temp). Interesting, isn’t it?

Been watching the storm radar for days. The hurricane is passing us by, leaving us with much-needed rainfall as it heads north. I’m wishing the best for those in Mobile, Tallahassee and in between who will take a direct hit. And I’m happy that New Orleans, my old home, won’t be affected. #Isaías […]

I’m making a new batch of terra sigillata from #clay I collected in Ocala National Forest. I stored it in a plastic bucket with a loose fitting lid for three years and it’s still damp. An anthropology professor told me that 95% of clays in #Florida are […]

A ceramic test tile and a small sample of wild clay lying side by side on a clay-splattered concrete floor, shot from above. The test tile is rounded at the top and dark orange with a fine crackled texture. It is matte and dry-looking. The wild clay sample is tan like nut butter. It is hard but still somewhat moist, broken into small chunks.

After working with Zulu potter, Jabulile Nala from South Africa, I began to wonder why #ceramics has become an expensive hobby requiring extensive tools and equipment when originally, it was just earth and fire which are free. I created this workshop series for those who are interested in clay […]

I just sent this pot to a collector in Brooklyn. I'm so grateful. The form of the vessel is inspired by Gwari water pots made by Ladi Kwali (Nigeria's most renowned potter) and other women potters of that region whose names we do not know. The surface design […]

Here’s how the 12lb planter turned out. (See upthread for before pic.) I’m excited to keep working this way. I think I want to make some larger planters for my next shop update.

A pottery wheel with a tall, unfinished clay cylinder on top. At this point, I had joined a second 6lb cylinder on top of the first and blended them together. I also used a carving tool to add rings to the top, center and bottom. Those rings create boundaries for the carved design I will add later. A measuring cup with remnants of clay sits nearby, alongside buckets of materials. The wheel is yellow and gray, with some clay splatter visible. The resulting red terracotta pot with a plant and a dark ceramic pot (the old planter) with a splashed of white glaze on the exterior are shown, surrounded by lush green leaves and some droplets of water.

Speaking of recipe sharing, I've been wanting to share glazy.org as a resource here. It's an international glaze recipe sharing platform built by Derek Au. It was recently updated and improved. I use a pretty limited glaze palette, but here are my offerings to the site […]

@ambientspace Yes, there is feldspar in the glaze as that is a very common ingredient in both clay and glazes. The blue-green color comes from copper carbonate. Thanks for the kind words and taking some time to notice the details.

I was given the recipe for the off-white glaze I use by another potter and it was a game changer for me. Before that, I was using glossy opaque glazes that completely covered my red stoneware clay whose color I loved so much. For years, I would compensate by […]

RE: https://mastodon.green/@PermaSolarPotter/117327239276742010

My new hobby is growing. For the first decade of my clay career I had no mental space for anything but ceramics. In the last year or two, that has begun to shift. It feels like a relief, honestly. I obviously still love clay but […]

I got my lamps back from the shop. This is such a fun, satisfying collaboration. 💡 #beautility #pottery #ceramics

The image features two decorative lamps with unique designs. The larger lamp on the left has a textured, light blue and brown surface with geometric patterns. The smaller lamp on the right has a vibrant design in dark orange, green, and brown zig zags. Each lamp features a tall, ringed neck.

@curtisysmith Amazing memories! I got to see him twice when I lived in Louisiana. Once in New Orleans, once in Baton Rouge. The NOLA show was my favorite. Sidenote: I've played shows in Denton, TX when I used to play in punk bands. Mostly house shows.

@curtisysmith a legend! RIP.
