Have you considered riding a bicycle? I'm just obsessed with these damn 2 wheeled machines. 2 years ago 10 miles was a big ride. Now, I do 40 miles for fun on the weekends. Doesn't build much muscle but it feels really good and my heart and lungs are happy.

This reminds me of days when I was out hunting all weekend, in my element, just being a critter. And then I'd have to come home and clean up for work/school/a wedding. I'm less wild than I once was, but I do miss sleeping on cold ground, miles and miles from electric lights or internet access.

I ride so much that people around me often ask if I compete. I let them know that I would try, but they wont let me because I'm trans. Fuck the UCI.

Realistically, I think this will just keep happening until the way we travel changes. It's just a hunch, but I think cars are so ubiquitous that it causes people to see them as benign rather than the 3k lb death machines they actually are. It isn't seen as a serious or dangerous activity.

"But what if I need to go 300 miles? You can't do that on the bike!" Again, then use a car or truck. That's fine! We sometimes need to fly to Los Angeles or Europe, but that doesn't mean we use a 747 to get to the grocery store.
