It’s going to be “worse than average” so can we please state a climate change connection? It must be stated everywhere it exists. It cannot be understated. People need to know how it’s impacting them bc we need everyone to mobilize.

Literally NO ONE should have nuclear weapons. I’m so sick of living in a world with a scarcity mindset and so much distrust. Smash the patriarchy. Decolonize everything, including our minds.

The point is that these economies did exist at scale (until colonizers came, committed genocide, and convinced the world that their idea of “progress and development” are the only logical ones). The question for today is how to transform our failing systems; ecological economics is one approach.

Try reading The Serviceberry. It’s full of alternatives that allowed all life the flourish. A key takeaway is abandoning the western mindset of scarcity and competition bc the world doesn’t actually work that way; even dominant theories of economics and evolution are taking on new perspectives.

I saw a post about “Would you really be willing to give up AI? Could you really get thru your work day without AI?!” And I just thought, son, I’m older than Google. I’m schooled in the ancient ways of finding information. And frankly, I miss roaming the stacks.

(1/2) I’m in Portugal and I cannot express how difficult it is to escape heat. The irony of air con is that it increases heat with its emissions. We must address climate change at the root causes! For those of you struggling with the heat, here’s a natural air con tip:

🧵 This week I need to focus on my climate grief practice more than ever. Between the devastation in Nepal and the news about passing 1,5 C by 2030 (if not sooner, let's be honest, the UN lags), I am doing two things regularly:

Naps: the human equivalent to "Did you try turning it off and on again?"

We must mobilise at a scale not seen since WWII, and we must focus on systemic, holistic, interconnected solutions. (And by solutions, I mean all of it: mitigation, adaptation, but with a vision for a future we can all love.)

I'm working with several bodies to create Bioregional Water Councils in the UK. Maybe we should talk.

Our world has been made so unkind and so cruel, it takes great strength and courage to be compassionate, thoughtful, and caring.

Exactly! Worldviews based on abundance (Nature’s gifts renew each spring), kinship with Nature, stewardship, reciprocity based on gratitude… it’s all possible. People all over the world have thrived based on the idea that “All flourishing is mutual.” (RWK)

My childhood was filled with my dad’s (often embellished) sailing stories, the true sailing story “Dove”, and this movie. Growing up I always felt out of place, yet I also knew so many of the places that called to me were changed forever. But this. This warms my heart so much.
