Abolish prisons except for the person who came up with the "spooky" discord notification sound

@foresightstudio.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 3:56 AM

When we play a game, we put our faith in the information we're given - but I think the power of TTRPGs is that we get to be more flexible about what's "true" than other mediums. I'll leave you with this: how else might we use narrative to shape reality?

In the meantime... bsky.app/profile/clea...

@foresightstudio.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 3:56 AM

I won't spoil the ending, but it's a brilliant, horrifying shift in perspective that reframes everything that came before. (It makes a second watch especially rewarding.) All my favorite games and stories surprise you this way: they give you a piece of information that changes everything.

A woman looks beatifically toward the sky, orange light framing her head.

At one point early in the film, Amanda quips, "no one sees what they don't want to." For me, this is the thesis statement of Saint Maud. The camera shows us the desolate, oppressive life that brought Maud to her belief, then shows how, if we take what she sees at face value, she's proven right.

A woman stands facing the wall of a small apartment, glowing wings emerging from her back.

Eventually, supernatural elements begin to infiltrate the narrative. We witness divine guidance and satanic possession, and it's incredibly effective because we're trapped in Maud's head. It doesn't matter what's real and what isn't, because this is what her faith tells her.

A woman floats facing the ceiling in a dingy apartment, back arched, eyes closed and arms extended.

Naturally, Maud makes it her mission to save Amanda's soul. As her attempt to play savior continues, Maud grows more desperate, more certain that if she suffers enough in the right ways, God will guide her hand, and will inevitably lead her ward to salvation. It goes very poorly.

Maud, a young woman, looks afraid and hurt as several figures wrap her head and shoulders in cloths and ribbon to make her look like a stereotypical Christian saint.
@foresightstudio.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 3:56 AM

For one thing, she hears God's voice. She says it sometimes feels like God's "in me or around me." A "shiver," a warm "pulsing." (yes, it's Like That.) For another, she's a recent convert. While it's never fully addressed, something awful happened at her last job, and it drove her down this path.

Maud lays against the landing of a green-carpeted staircase, wearing a black and red checkered sweater. Her hair is spread out behind her and her hands clutch her face, in ecstasy.
@foresightstudio.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 3:56 AM

Maud is a home hospice nurse sent to care for Amanda Köhl, a dancer and choreographer who has spinal lymphoma. They're a study in contrasts, Maud devout and straitlaced, Amanda hedonistic and expressive. From the start, there are hints that Maud's relationship to God is... a touch unconventional.

A woman in a beanie and gray robe sits on a blue couch with a wooden tray in front of her, her hands clasped in prayer but her eyes looking to the right of the frame, where a younger woman with a sharp middle part, light blue uniform, and brown cardigan prays with her head down and eyes closed.

The leaves are changing, the skies are gray, and that can only mean one thing: Haunt-Along! My first Haunt-Along pick is Saint Maud, a delightfully unsettling piece of religious horror from director Rose Glass. It's about loneliness, faith, guilt, and a little bit of murder.

A close-up shot of two women's faces close to one another. One woman is reclining, and the other stands over her, a hand on her face, dimly lit by a warm light from offscreen.

Designs not final but here's a closer look at those cards :)

A mockup of four tarot cards floating against a rough gradient. On top is "XXI - Judgement", featuring three eyes stacked on top of one another with a beam of light descending from the bottom. Second is "XVII - The Star," featuring a ring of light at the top and three small glowing dots toward the bottom. Below is "IX - The Hermit", featuring a cloth-like/candle-like figure with a glowing light hovering above it. At the bottom is a draft of the card back, all black with a thin white border and a vertical line of phases of the moon.

Super excited that The Firmament is officially a Kickstarter Project We Love!! And I put together a new banner image featuring some previews of the card designs.

Follow the campaign & see more at ttrpg.fund/firmament!

The banner for a kickstarter page for a game called The Firmament. A book floats on the left side of the image against a glowing, grimy gradient with a faint grid overlaid on it. The book features a large white hand reaching up toward the title at the top. On the right side of the image, four tarot cards fall from above, glowing faintly. The most obviously visible one features three eyes looking different directions. The title of the game is written in white text across the bottom of the image.
