dc statehood is non-negotiable after trump's actions in his second term. republicans despise the people of the city that hosts them, and there is little reason to think that, now that the seal is broken on treating them as an occupied population, a next republican president will be more restrained

You can kill as many people as you want, but you target a beautiful precious data center? The one that hosted all 40,000 Sexy Ladies For Ken Paxton accounts?

A fact that sounds like bullshit but is actually true: There is more square footage of parking *per car* in the US than there is square footage of housing *per person.*

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

SSteve Burak@swburak.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:39 PM

Why do people with vision need alt text for an image...?

Very glad to be an Inquirer subscriber. (Did you know that it's now owned by a nonprofit?) Also, apparently this is the first of two articles. Looking forward to the next one tomorrow.

Piece came out at USAToday

Why? Because USAToday owners (Gannett) only own media companies, so they have an incentive to attract an audience & advertisers

Tech elites like Bezos, Ellisons, Musk, & Benioff use their media firm to cozy to Trump, not to make profit

Quick story. My op-ed on how corporations that kept their DEI programs performed just as well financially was accepted & factchecked at TIME Magazine. Just needed "pro forma review by the legal department." Suddenly the piece is spiked Why? Benioff owns TIME and wants to ingratiate himself to Trump

Nothing has ever been more real than the Trump Putin collaboration

AAaron Rupar@atrupar.comOct 11, 2026, 12:38 AM

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

We all need it to lose so the NIMBYs stop trying, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

no seriously, if the only reason you use a website is "everyone else is there" then what you need to do is log off and ask your parents what to do because you're not old enough to be making your own decisions

I, personally, would not go on the record with a reporter to announce I’m in favor of destroying the playground my kid is currently loving because I drive to work once a week (and the road still wouldn’t go there anyway), but everyone lives their lives differently I guess

Ryuka, 5, said he’d prefer to keep the park — and the playground — over a road during weekdays.
“Playground,” he said softly, avoiding meeting this reporter’s gaze. “I like the ship.”
Asked what would improve the park, which sits feet from Ocean Beach, he was decisive.
“More sand,” he said, burying his hands in the stuff.
Ads separate from the “no” campaign but featured on its Instagram page (opens in new tab) argue that car crashes in District 4 have declined since the Great Highway closed and that Sunset Dunes is the city’s third-most-popular park.
Ryuka’s mom, Denise Leo, 50, supports Prop. G because it would restore the road for weekend commutes. She drives Friday mornings for work as a library aide in San Mateo and wants the option of taking the Great Highway, rather than 19th Avenue. The pathway above the highway always worked when she wanted to go for a run, anyway. Or, wait, does she oppose G?
Told that a “no” vote keeps the road closed to cars, she paused. In 2024, she pointed out, it was the “no” vote that kept the highway open.
“I’m gonna vote to open it,” she said, looking at her son. “Even though he likes it.”

Worth remembering that being neurodivergent does not mean you're a sociopath, which is what these guys are. Also, I needed that laugh.
