The green one, bottom right, is actually a lichen, a Cladonia. Lichens, I’m sure you don’t need telling, are a symbiosis of fungi and algae. They’re everywhere and when you look up close, they can actually be really beautiful.

I’ve been surprised myself. An exceptionally dry summer, and even now there’s been some rain, it’s still not enough. But the number, variety and, frankly, size of mushrooms seen this early this year is amazing. Some of these fly agarics were like 25-30 cm tall. Puffballs by the thousands, too.
