@willbuckingham.comI'm often caught between the dilemma of whether to eat sesame paste dry noodles (麻醬乾麵) for lunch, or whether to eat dumplings (水餃). But today I found a place near Pingtung university that serves sesame paste dry dumplings (麻醬乾餃), and thus have I been liberated from the agony of difficult choices.

But everyone knows that the only true hallmark of writerly success is that bootleg copies of your books can be found translated into Burmese, and are made available in bookshops in downtown Yangon and Mandalay.

@willbuckingham.comI picked up my Taiwan permanent residency card from the immigration office today. The woman who works there was unusually frisky (she's sometimes quite fierce) —maybe because she knows that she'll never again have to face my endless questions about small bureaucratic nuances.

@willbuckingham.comTowards the end of my Burmese class today, we were interrupted by loudspeakers in the background: the military announcing that this month 8 young people from that particular ward would be conscripted. And I was reminded how, for those in Myanmar, this nightmare just goes on and on.
