“This recent dump of papers on Tuesday destroyed the careers of early-career mathematicians. We've had whole research programs wiped out on Tuesday by their dump … they have all the mathematicians research programs in their training data” - Tristan Buckmaster on OpenAI solving unsolved math problems
Donald Trump’s demolition of the rule of law makes a mockery of our Constitution and endangers our country. My thoughts in the Philadelphia @Inquirer.com.

Race permeates talk about election fraud. The fraud narratives of 2020 brought that reality into sharp relief for us to document.

And here, being political scientists, we would have probably settled for "readable" 😆
I'm THRILLED to finally get my hands on this new book on the Voting Rights Act!
I've long talked to author @kevintmorris.bsky.social, who is an indefatigable researcher of voting rights and the (worsening) state of democracy in this country. So I know for a fact I'll be learning a ton.
If you'd asked us our goal, we would have written basically exactly this. Very glad it came through: "Miller and Morris are both social scientists, and their training shines in the figures and tables that give empirical weight to their inquiry without slowing down the book’s propulsive narrative."
"Episodes like this imbue An American Problem with color and energy. Miller and Morris are adroit storytellers, weaving together decades of history, political science, and legal scholarship without allowing the impressive sweep of their analysis to drain life from the people who shaped it."
Thanks, Daniel! Grateful as ever for your (and the whole Bolts team's) partnership in the work
"The 1965 Voting Rights Act is often considered the crown jewel of the Civil Rights Movement, one of the most effective pieces of legislation ever passed" - @kevintmorris.bsky.social of @brennancenter.org explains how the Voting Rights Act came to be

What’s left in the fight for voting rights? A lot. In An American Problem, Michael G. Miller and @kevintmorris.bsky.social trace the Voting Rights Act’s history, its successes, and how Shelby County v. Holder weakened its protections. Available now: #[bit.ly/4y6W1ot
