Yesterday, the Governor signed into law my bill authorizing people to sue ICE and Border Patrol (or any other federal official) for violating their rights. Hours later, 3 people filed lawsuits under the new law. The era of impunity is ending. When we act decisively, we can fight authoritarianism.

The Governor just signed my bill to allow people to sue ICE, Border Patrol, and other federal agents for violating people’s constitutional rights. Starting immediately, people can sue federal agents retroactive to abuse occurring in March 2025.

The Supreme Court recently — and ridiculously — ruled that youth conversion therapy can qualify as “free speech,” and SB 934 increases our odds of defending California’s ban in court. We must stick up for kids and ensure they aren’t subjected to this abusive therapy.

Thank you Governor Newsom for signing my bill to strengthen California’s ban on youth conversion therapy — psychological torture where a therapist tries to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Conversion therapy has caused incalculable harm to LGBTQ young people over the years. 🧵

I authored California’s Entertainment Zone law, which allows sale of alcohol outdoors on designated streets and plazas. Cities have flexibility in designating locations, days, and times. It’s great that San Francisco just designated its first permanent Entertainment Zone, at Thrive City.

This evening I’ll be with my Jewish community for Yom Kippur, as we atone and look toward growth in the year to come. Yom Kippur is when we repent before God. To make right among one another, we must repair harm that has been done. Wishing a meaningful fast to those who do so.
