We can’t keep letting our families live and die this way. Our lawmakers must take action NOW.

Police have shared that among the eight people shot and killed at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania yesterday were a 5-year-old boy, a nearly 2-year-old girl, and a woman who was 8 months pregnant. Seven of the victims were family and one was a family friend.

Yesterday, a man was shot in his car by ICE officers in New York City while his five-year-old son sat terrified in the back seat. No child, family, or community should ever experience this violence. We demand a full, transparent investigation.

Only in America do disagreements so often upend lives and turn deadly. Why? Because the gun lobby stokes fear and paranoia at the expense of public safety. We can’t keep living like this.

This is the gun lobby’s America. A political argument at a dog park in Ohio escalated when two men reached for their guns. One of the men was shot, had to have emergency surgery, and is now unable to return to his job as a forklift mechanic.

The child’s parents—one of whom is a Detroit police officer—have been charged after the incident. Michigan’s law requires guns to be secured in a locked container or unloaded with a locking device when left unattended around children, because no 3-year-old should be able to get their hands on a gun.

TERRIFYING: A three-year-old boy was found with a loaded handgun last week at a daycare in Michigan. The firearm was passed around between toddlers and discovered by a teacher. No one was harmed, but this could have been so much worse.

We know Rep. Nixon will continue to champion public safety in the Senate.

She understands the toll gun violence has had on communities and she’s consistently pushed back on efforts to roll back lifesaving gun safety laws, including the bipartisan gun safety measures enacted after the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Our lawmakers must commit to passing commonsense gun safety laws that will close dangerous loopholes, keep guns out of the wrong hands, and protect survivors.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re reminded just how dangerous domestic disputes are, especially when an abuser is armed with a gun. Every year, more than 700 American women are shot to death by intimate partners—roughly one every 12 hours.

Today and always, our hearts are with the victims, survivors, and the entire Las Vegas community as we work to prevent such senseless acts of gun violence.

Nine years ago today, a gunman armed with 13 rifles equipped with bump stocks fired over 1,000 bullets into a crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas. This massacre devastated the nation—60 people were killed, more than 800 were injured, and countless lives were forever changed.

We know that safe storage laws save lives, but Florida has no laws that require unattended firearms to be stored in a certain way. Florida lawmakers must act now to pass safe storage laws and protect our kids from such devastating violence.

This summer, a four-year-old boy climbed onto a stool in his Florida home, found a gun in his mom’s purse, and fatally shot himself with it. There is nothing inevitable about a four-year-old finding a gun and killing himself.
