So what designers *should* aim for is to design in a CB-accessible way by default, and if they really are stuck in a place where some elements must rely on hue difference alone to communicate/differentiate info, let people change those specific elements' hue&brightness. That's the overwhelming...

It looks like the UI for the standard Unreal Engine full-screen filter, which shunts the entire palette around? In which case it's harmful enough an approach that it is explicitly forbidden by storefront tag criteria, i.e. games with it can't be tagged as colourblind friendly in Xbox store etc...

Also it's not that they don't want you to press these buttons. They do. They just think it's unfair to expect someone to make configuration decisions game before they've even tried to play; they want players to have tools to Remedy problems they encounter. See here:

Unreal only had the best of intentions when they implemented it, but it has done so much harm. The single most positive impact Unreal could have on accessibility in games would be to remove that feature.
