For starters, one might ask, what are the meanings of anima and Divine Feminine, mentioned above. Beyond that, how do they relate to our new understandings of birth and death, the perinatal and the matriarchy, and to the spiritual development of women, as well as men.

For many reasons, chief among which is the fact that the Divinity Within, the Divine Feminine, plays a big part in lunar theologies, a funny-god way, and the necessary hero of modern times, it is important to have a clear understanding of its meaning. Since I have been referring to the anima in men here, which, like the Divine Feminine, has feminine characteristics, the need to distinguish and understand the two concepts is at hand. Most importantly, since we are fetching from a traditionally patriarchal motor pool here, in discussing champions, rites of passage, bravery, and valiant deeds, it is imperative to right that imbalance through a focus on women’s actually more important role in this new, more enlightened form of spiritual nobility and heroic activism.

Being Half-Born Makes Humans Variable ... and Reckless

Our birth defines us humans, and it represents a separation in our understanding of life from all other — nine million and more — of species of planetmates. The additional thing is that it is related to a helplessness of our newborns, more helpless after birth than even the most helpless of newborns of other species.

So we have birth trauma with a physically and mentally undevel- oped fetus having to confront a most horrendous ordeal of making a huge head fit through a narrow pelvic opening. Then we have addi- tional trauma in that we have an excessive neediness and reliance on the environment to provide those needs afterward — those physical and neurological needs.

So the Vietnam-era or Sixties Generation began being denigrated in the press with the accusation, “The ‘Me’ Generation,” and Sixties values were also denigrated — the scapegoating of the Sixties Generation continuing — despite the fact that it was a different age group in society, the younger Yuppies, who were actually the ones triggering the attack.

Opposing Worlds

The hypocrisy of the charge of the Sixties Generation being Yuppies becomes even more blatant when considering their values. Sixties values included such selfless acts as risking, sometimes incurring, violence and personal harm, jail time, and a lower standard of living for the sake of their idealistic beliefs in peace, environmental restoration and preservation, and selfless communitarian living, among others. None of that has any overlap with Yuppie careerism, consumerism, materialism, or their individualistic greedy selfishness. But then truth was not their forte, the WWII and Fifties Generations. Later these same elderly generational types would tell us that an election in 2020 was stolen, and they would dare to say that some imaginary Antifa were who stormed the Capitol during the insurrection of January 6th, 2021. Daunting, these lies are, as they are indiscriminately piled, one upon the other down through the decades.

This tactic of the wealthy elite targeting a scapegoat to create a Culture War, which would keep their larceny in the shadows, is indeed the premise of this book.

However, scientists and the educated public are not supposed to be like that. It is our job to be looking squarely into the face of these forces of denial and potential apocalypse and to be seeking to understand the human condition and human psychology in light of them. It is our duty then to inform the rest of us about what we see so that we might have a chance of reversing our self-destructive tendencies.

Whether the educated public and the multitude of scholars actually are fulfilling their mission in these times is debatable.

Regardless, my thesis is that when we do this, when we look foursquare into the face of the global crisis and its accompanying denial, we find that these unprecedented global factors contribute to a unique and unprec- edented human condition and psychology. I have seen a bumper sticker proclaiming, “If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention!” It could as easily say, however, “If you’re not alarmed,” fearful, anxious, depressed ... you name it, “You’re not paying attention!”
