The moral turpitude of the US under Trump is exemplified by the plan to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan. It degrades all of America and everyone who does not condemn it. Yet what happens in America always crosses the Atlantic and affects us here.

I see BBC Scotland, and the anti-independence press, all of whom made a huge song and dance about Gordon Brown's Vow in 2014, aren't too bothered that the Tories - one of the signatories of the Vow - have just ripped it up and now want to strip powers from Holyrood.

With the Tories' foolish announcement to revisit the Scotland Act and claw back powers from Holyrood, Badenoch has killed off the 'once in a generation' claim as well as the assertion that the issue of independence was settled in 2014.

Burnham has destroyed two of the main arguments of the Westminster parties. He's pensioned off the claim that Scottish state pensions can only be protected in the UK and by opening the door to an EU referendum he's blown up the argument against indyref2.

Most of Burnham's promises were for policies to be introduced after the next GE, the national care service, reform of the voting system, closer ties with the EU, all put off until after the next GE - political code for ‘never’. It was a very traditional Labour speech, the jam is always tomorrow.
