I’d guess a big factor is the increase in people expercing a housing crisis, which is very visible. And of course while you can see this everywhere it is not likely houseless people are going to rob you much less shoot you. There is a pretty simple fix for this! (It’s give everyone a home)

"Governments expanded harm reduction without building... the treatment, psychiatric care, supportive housing, recovery and transitional capacity needed to address the underlying problems at the same scale." This is precisely it. We gave up on something without ever fully investing what was required.

“What are you doing about public safety on the TTC?” ❌ I don’t understand, crime is down ✅ Everyone deserves to feel safe on the TTC. Crisis support workers, supportive housing, addictions treatment, the 211 number, 911 response time, etc

Thoughtful article by @ericlombardi.ca

I do think when online progressives pretend we haven’t noticed or can’t see a problem, that makes us seem out of touch not compassionate

The Toronto Police association: - endorsed Olivia Chow, - says the mayor doesn’t need to sit on the board if it’s functioning properly - says the Ontario Police College can only train net +100 officers per year so her hiring plan is more realistic

All Bike lane projects are road safety projects: making it uncomfortable+ impossible to drive fast was the point. If you want to drive fast, do it on a highway, away from where people live, walk & cycle. People were driving at an avg speed that would kill a human and that's what will happen again.

Bike lane removals from Islington to Royal York are anticipated to start the evening of Oct. 13. Community members are encouraged to meet at the Bloor Green P Lot for Tom Riley Park at 5pm onwards (come whenever you can) 1/2

Honestly not a great result for all the arguments that a road diet would be better received than the speed cameras People are going to hate that too!

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…” One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

Took the bike share to the polling station after work and cast my ballot for mayor, councillor, and trustee. And yes, I picked the correct Chow (#9) and Layton. You can also vote early tomorrow, Saturday, or Sunday from 10 AM to 7 PM. 😉🚲🗳 #BikeTO #TOpoli #IBikeIVote

Tuesday will be a sad day for Ontario. Ford's government is taking us backwards, spending millions taking away bike lanes in Toronto when people across Ontario desperately need money for hospitals, housing, schools and infrastructure.

The Ford government is set to remove Etobicoke bike lanes next week. The government confirmed to the Star that work will begin Oct. 13 to remove bike lanes on a stretch of Bloor Street that has been at the heart of the city’s bike lane battle.

"Some of you must die" is an interesting campaign plan.

From the "Toronto Car People" facebook group:

Greetings all. The time has come.

To those who frequently reach out to ward councillors, theirs and others, I respect the perseverance and dedication. However, the source of much of the frustration routinely seen in posts here and experienced on the road by members of this group is, as most already know, Vision Zero. It is the city’s moral and sacred transportation religion, and the only effective way to tackle it is to dismantle it from the bottom up.

Unlike organized walking, transit, and cycling groups and institutions, motorists in this city number in the millions but are incredibly fragmented and decentralized. The vast majority don’t have the time to attend all of the community and council meetings on this subject because they are busy dealing with life’s obligations. If motorists, us included, are going to have any impact on transportation policy in this city, communication will have to be strategic and in numbers.
