@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15 Ōnosato's stablemaster, former Kisenosato, was 1st Japanese yokozuna in many a year. His ascendancy was cut short by serious injury soon after - he must be proud to see his protege achieving success. Always been one to mask his feelings, he didn't crack a smile until out of sight of audience
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15 Fujinokawa cracked a sheepish smile when asked if he was nervous up there doing the sanyaku soroibumi for first time. Answer was obviously “yes” 🤗
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15
Ōnosato said in his interview in front of everyone at Kokugikan that he had wondered if he’d ever get another yūshō 😭 #akibasho2026
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15
Ōnosato receiving his 6th Emperor’s Cup (well it’s the same cup but..) #akibasho2026
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15 SPOILER I admit it, I was rooting for Ao, but then I saw Ōnosato overcome with emotion during Kimi Ga Yo, Japan's national anthem, and I realized what a relief it is for him and for sumo to have a yokozuna who can deliver. Does sumo deliver?! Everbody say "hai!" 🤗
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15 Yūshō bout!
Yz Ōnosato 11-3 (L)
Oz Aonishiki 11-3 (R)
This is it! Can Ao take two yūshō in a row? May depend on which Ōnosato shows up today, can he bounce back from his loss yesterday and take his first yūshō in a year? #akibasho202
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15
Oz Kirishima 7-7 (L)
Oz Kotozakura 9-5 (R)
These two have their struggles but both deserve the ōzeki mantle! Kinda got root for Kiri cuz he needs that KK to avoid kadoban (so many things that start with K are important in this bout 🤗) #akibasho2026
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15
Sw Atamifuji 8-6 (L)
Sw Fujinokawa 10-4 (R)
Sekiwake battle! One of the biggest men in makuuchi vs the man who doesn’t know his own size! #akibasho2026
@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15

@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15
M3 Churanoumi 9-5 (L)
Km Daieishō 5-9 (R)

@sumosoul.bsky.socialDay15
M6 Asanoyama 10-4 (L)
M2 Yoshinofuji 8-6 (R)
Asanoyama has proven he’s got the goods for this level - he can get a Fighting Spirit award with a win here. Yoshi is a new up n comer who already had a sanyaku appearance last basho after only four basho in makuuchi #akibasho2026
