It's worth adding that since 2020, the CCC published revised estimates of the cost of net-zero, which it now says would amount to £108bn over 25 years, or 0.2% of GDP

This is mainly due to falling costs for EVs – more here:

It seems the original sin here was by David Turver, a retired engineer and self-described "accidental energy analyst", who made the £957bn claim in a 12 Jan article for the Spectator, previewing his 13 Jan report for rightwing thinktank the Institute of Economic Affairs

Tory maths fail when attacking net zero accidentally turns £458bn into £957bn. Oops. But there is a more deliberate dishonesty here, where all the costs of NOT taking climate action are ignored: higher household bills, health costs and spiralling climate breakdown.

Important article on the risk of AMOC collapse.

"The most important no-regret measure is also the only one scientists say can reduce the risk of the AMOC collapsing in the first place: cutting planet-warming emissions."

People support clean energy but think others don't. People support clean air but think others don't. People support low traffic neighbourhoods but think others don't. And they think others don't because vested interests and right-wing media work hard to create that impression.

Reform UK's funding has made headlines this year. But its ties to the UAE have largely flown under the radar. Our new report maps how an oil-rich Gulf state with no elections has built links to Farage et al, and into the wider UK far right, including Tommy Robinson. fairsq.org/petropopulis...

Report cover from FairSquare titled "Petro-populism: The UAE, Reform UK and the Far-Right". Headline reads: "Inside Reform UK's worrying ties to the UAE. New research maps a web of connections spanning Farage and the wider UK far right." The yellow-toned collage shows halftone cut-outs of Nigel Farage in profile on the left, Richard Tice at the bottom centre, and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed on the right, set against a backdrop of oil pipelines stretching across the desert.

And of course, these 450,000 deaths are *only* those caused by extreme heat, not from flooding, Pacific storms, wildfires... or crop failure. There are some very alarming predictions about El NiƱo's impact on global hunger and food prices when combined with fertiliser shortages.

@campaigncc.bsky.socialSep 22, 2026, 11:56 AM

This extreme El NiƱo will bring drought, wildfires & crop losses in some regions and more intense rains & flooding in others. El NiƱo is predicted to push about 50 million people into acute hunger and increase food prices. Simultaneously, global food production is being hit by high fertiliser costs
