I keep pointing out he was hitting at an MVP level for the first 3 weeks of September. Then he fouled that pitch off himself on 9/22, left the game, missed the next game, & for the rest of the season & postseason hit .132 with no extra-base hits. That injury messed him up physically and/or mentally.
5) Overall, I think if you’re going to have a lockout that disrupts the offseason, this isn’t a bad roster to have, because I really don’t think there’s a ton to fix that you can’t address internally.
4) I think we will have the pitching depth, but a proper #2 starter wouldn’t hurt. Maybe that guy is on the roster already (Fuentes, Mahle, AJSS, Waldrep, Strider’s Corpse) but I’d certainly be looking for another add.
He and the rest of the offense deserved those boos Wednesday night. But the odds are pretty favorable that while he might never be the 40-75 guy again, he can still be really good.
3) I would not trade Ronald. I think you’d still get a lot for him, but there’s very little chance that any of those prospects can help the team in 2027 more so than a healthy and motivated RAJ can. I think anyone wanting to trade him is just mad at him, which I get.
2) Shortstop: I really wanted it to be HSK, but I think he’s just cursed. Dubón is Prado 2.0, in the sense that his value is in his ability to play multiple positions, and he becomes less valuable the moment you make him the everyday anything. I’d like to keep his spot fluid.
Riley, however, has been playing beneath his abilities for three seasons and was just dreadful this year. Could not catch up to a fastball. I don’t know if it’s physical, nutritional, mental, or spiritual but I would leave no stone unturned in an effort to fix it.
Here’s what I want to see the Braves do this offseason, and honestly, I don’t think it should or needs to be anything drastic: 1) I would put every available offseason resource into fixing Austin Riley. RAJ gets the attention bc he’s the star, but even a bad RAJ is still a good player.
Every Fox analyst: walks will kill you in the playoffs The Braves: hold my beer
We are not
Ronald Acuña Jr. not having a great October is understandably a big talking point in ATL, but also .. my god, look at the quality of pitching he saw. It's like an All-Star game for an entire week-plus.
Yeah I don’t know anything either. I’d tend to trust Walt and the brass to make the call here. I just don’t know enough about what a hitting coach does during a playoff series. It would certainly make us layfolk all feel better though if he were gone.
We beat the Phillies, and while my hatred for the Dodgers burns with the fires of a thousand suns, going toe to toe and losing competitively against a generational roster with an incredible ̶m̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶l̶a̶u̶n̶d̶e̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶s̶c̶h̶e̶m̶e̶ financial advantage is nothing to be ashamed of.
It’s fine. Annoyed at the bats going quiet against good pitching again. I always want my team to be the last team standing, but it’s fine. Looking at the quality of pitching across baseball this postseason, we did more with less than any team. Every SP we faced would’ve been our #1 or #2.
Just remarkably lazy coverage from the most established beat writer on the (admittedly decimated) Braves beat.
Best postseason team ERA of this run and best in over a decade but sure, man. Thank god we have such a strong, knowledgeable collection of blog talent who tell the real story.
Why is this the headline? We scored one fuckin run
Just start the lockout now tbh
