Seedhead reviewed in @thegrindto.bsky.social by @therewasnosound.bsky.social of @newfeelingcoop.bsky.social

Avi holding a copy of The Grind, a Toronto current affairs and culture print magazineReview of Avi Engel's "Seedhead," written by Michael Rancic:
"It feels fitting to write about this record from Toronto-based songwriter Avi Engel in the wake of a devastating storm that flooded the city this September. In the aftermath of seeing massive trees lying broken at their trunks, the DVP submerged beneath muddy water, and rushing tides seeping into city buses, themes of ecological crisis and grief feel especially top of mind. Set to spare, gothic folk arrangements, Engel mourns a world with “frostbitten leaves” and riddled with “rifles and bones.” With “Seedhead,” Engel gives voice to these anxieties, and the feeling of watching our familiar world transform into something unstable and increasingly unrecognizable." — Michael Rancic

Candidates for the BC Conservatives have likened education about the 2SLGBTQ+ community to "grooming," referenced Jan. 6 conspiracies and questioned COVID vaccine safety. Right after we published this, tweets from another candidate surfaced where he joked about killing pro-Palestine activists.

this place sucks too! Palestinians are regularly banned for trying to seek aid on here. a trans person got banned for calling out Ken Jennings ffs. you can't just hermit crab your way from platform to platform and think that's going to address hate of any kind. it will follow you wherever you go!

@therewasnosound.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 9:04 PM

look at the quotes of that original post and you'll see a level of smugness which is pretty common on here: people blaming individuals for being too "lazy" to make the switch, when it's not about that at all.

@therewasnosound.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 9:04 PM

the simple answer to this is that there is no single ongoing coordinated effort to get people to leave or boycott twitter. the tesla takedown stuff, which was largely organized on here, could have spread in that direction but never did.

Contrary to the PM's statement, the "worst attack against Jewish people since the Holocaust" took place in Argentina in 1976-1983, and was backed by Israel. "Jewish victims may have been as high as 3,000. Despite being less than 1% of the population, Jews made up around 12% of the victims..."

I feel like we don’t talk about millennials in particular, hitting our 40s - in earlier generations many of us would be reaching the peak of our careers, but because of disaster after disaster, locust after locust eating our industries, many of us are on our 3rd or 4th fresh start.
