I opened up a mystery chip; it turned out to be a "switched capacitor filter" from 1984. Filters are important circuits, for example, adjusting the bass or treble in an audio signal. This chip, the MF10, was popular because it combined two filters into an easy-to-use chip. Let's take a closer look…

A die photo of the chip under a microscope. It is rectangular, with complicated horizontal and vertical white lines (the metal wiring layer). It has some reddish regions, in particular 72 small reddish squares in the middle (the capacitors). Underneath, the silicon is gray. Around the edges, 20 tiny bond wires are attached to pads; these wires connect the die to the external package.

At 30W it can crunch more numbers than almost any X86 chip I've tested at same power. At 15-20W its efficiency curve is even better. But wildcat lake is looking great

Heh, I finally figured out YouTube started blasting out my 4 year old 'I'm sick' video on the algo, and I'm getting a ton of DMs saying get well. Until I figured that out I was wondering why so many people were saying that lol. I'm doing quite well for the past couple years! :)

The Radxa Dragon 8QB is more than 2x faster than the Pi 5, has tons more I/O, and only costs a little more... but good luck finding one :(

Today's video goes into the details: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUUu...

NTS-200 NTP Time server from early 2000s was handed to me at VCF Midwest. It works! Just... off by 19 years ;) I put a DC block on the antenna input though, don't want it to fry my GPS splitter! I may be able to get it to 2026, we'll see.

And... we did it! Thank you to everyone who donated!

Chances are someone you know has one or has had one, though usually we ostomates don't go running around shouting about them on the rooftops haha.

Only $300 off the $5,000 fundraising goal for the @uoaa-ostomy.bsky.social, thanks to the $2k matching gift from my livestream sponsor Twingate!

Huge thanks to them and to all of YOU who donated to help this worthy group helping ostomates everywhere! VOD here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vtF...

Basically. This could be the golden era for retrocomputing... so many new things on the market to make the rough parts smoother, and fix up old machines. Enough parts that still work that aren't too expensive (MOST of the time), and still have many people who built the machines around (for now).

PCIe link speed not amazing, but useful for some cases. AMD and Nvidia drivers have been okay on arm64 a while now, but Intel drivers still... not perfect.

The support is key—I am extremely lucky to have a few amazing caregivers who have helped when I was at my lows and really needed it.

So happy to celebrate Ostomy Awareness Day with my beautiful wife (after this morning's @uoaa-ostomy.bsky.social fundraiser livestream), the same week as our anniversary — 16 years in, still learning new things together daily!

RAM's so expensive I don't know if I'll ever upgrade my PCs again.

So join me tomorrow while I upgrade my 1989 *Mac* SE/30, for the annual UOAA Ostomy Day fundraiser livestream! 9a Central / 10a Eastern / 2p UTC: youtube.com/live/-vtFNuP...

Ouch, maybe you have some old upstream node limiting to 1G!

I am on business, and if they block 123 I can definitely get that removed :)

Oh don't tempt me with mechanical clocks... I know that's a rabbit hole far too deep for me to ever escape. Like the black hole of time-nuts. People go there and never come back :D

AAAAH FIBER!!! After four years of pestering AT&T, it is finally here! (And I can finally join the NTP Pool... eventually, it'll be a video of course!)

Joe is a seasoned radio engineer. Jeff is an accomplished software engineer and has crafted a big YouTube following. Put them in a (virtual) room together and that's where the fun begins!

I had a great time chatting with @jeffgeerling.com and his dad. Radio and IT are more alike than you may think.

ShadyTel builds an entire phone company for one weekend, every year, at VCF Midwest. This year they added a GNSS frequency standard for their T1 network, and it was sitting under my NTP Time table! Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQdx...
