i had the great honor/challenge of drawing the winner of Fatales' Favorite Duo in Gaming from #FlameFatales2026, "me & the girl reading this"!

shoutout to Lesbians^2, Shadow & Latinas, and to all the other submissions! thank you all so much for having fun with this and for supporting Malala Fund!

an illustration by sergeant mug made to look like a screenshot from a dating sim game. the UI reads that the scene takes place at night on september 19, 2026, in a setting called "faith garden." a music player widget in the corner reads "playing: flame fatales 2026." the player is in conversation with a character called "me," who is blushing looking surprised. she says "huh? t-the girl i like? well..."another illustration like the previous. the character called "me," continues her thought looking a little shy. "she's actually... reading this right now." the background has acquired a pink glow with a bunch of hearts.a screenshot from the GDQ donation tracker showing bidwar results from a Flame Fatales 2026 bidwar. the prompt is "Fatales' Favorite Duo in Gaming," and it raised $3267.55 for Malala Fund. in first place with $1165 is "me & the girl reading this." in second with $705 is "lesbians & also lesbians." in third with $337.55 is "shadow the hedgehog & Latinas."a screenshot of a discord message sent on september 19, 2026, at 8:23 PM, from avery twinkachu who says "donate to make mug have to figure out what the hell it means to draw 'the girl reading this'"

the few paragraphs of the story that focused on pierre's community, his family, his church, were far more interesting and heart wrenching than the majority about the poor white guy who felt bad. i appreciate exploring all angles of a story, but why was this centered on white guilt?
