I check in daily with a couple Dear Friends. I listen - without prejudice, with presence - to their day, or whatever they are full of. I feel Rich. This fuels my soul and fills My Heart. Most times they listen to me, too.

Love “take care of all beings.” That’s the heart of basic income: a floor for everyone, no exceptions.

Unpaid work is often called women’s work, but all of us carry something society never pays for. Tell us the work you do out of love, duty, or exhaustion. The work expected of you, or that just falls on you without question. It counts. Then add “I’d be rich.” UBI: because all work counts

What do you do every day that no one pays you for? Quote this post with yours, then add “I’d be rich.”

Example: “Caring for Mom through dementia, every appointment and every sleepless night, on top of my job. I’d be rich.” #UBI #BasicIncome

Unpaid work: emotional labor, caregiving, chores, art

Quote card with the Basic Income Action logo. On the left, a black-and-white photo of a woman speaking at a bank of microphones. On the right, large text: “If I were paid for all the ______ I did every day, I’d be rich.” A gold line marks the blank. Below: “Quote this with your unpaid work, in your own words. Then add I’d be rich.” and “UBI: because all work counts. Adapted from Johnnie Tillmon, ‘Welfare Is a Women’s Issue’ (1972).”

"Tax our wealth and provide basic income and we'll all leave and everyone will stop working," says the person with way too much wealth who never stops wanting more more more more more.

Love those ideas, and we’d welcome all of them. But even the best workplace only helps people who are working. Caregivers, people with disabilities, folks between jobs, and anyone displaced by automation still need a floor. Basic income and fairer work go hand in hand.

Social Security could be expanded to cover everyone, with no paying in required first. Social Security for All is one direction basic income policy could go: a universal floor for every person, not one earned through payroll contributions.

Every person has worth before they have a job. When the system can't employ someone, the system has failed, not the person.

Homelessness isn't a character flaw. It's what happens when people run out of money and nothing catches them. Basic income is that floor.

One of the knock-on benefits of Universal Basic income, would be that people would not need to waste time on forms, and could use that time for projects, growing vegetables and many many more things.

"Being poor is actually a full-time job & being
broke is like a full-time job with the amount of
paperwork and the time going from office to
office proving what you have done.

With Universal Basic Income all that would
be eliminated with the time liberated to do
something socially productive."

Believing some people can never be persuaded is itself a view that can change. That's the work we're doing at Basic Income Action. We believe everyone is a supporter, they just don't know it yet.

Watch "Why The Rich Think The Poor Are Lazy" by @barryseconomics.bsky.social

It gets at exactly this, scarcity changes how people think and act, not who they are. Lift the floor on someone, remove the pressure, and that "laziness" narrative falls apart.
