One of the key people hired by the City of Hamilton to respond to its Feb 2024 cybersecurity failure has been arrested by the FBI in the United States, as a "suspected co-conspirator" of a collective of hackers.
I will STRESS that the allegations are unproven untested. #yhmcc

Thanks. I missed that autocorrect error.

I'm the one who jinxed it. I read there was a no hitter in the 6th, tuned, and there was a hit.

The Ontario NDP is asking for its members and supporters to help re-elect Andrea Horwath.

Horwath is a former Ontario NDP leader. #yhmvote

For municipalities in Ontario:

The Court of Appeal declined to provide further guidance or opine on Section 7 of the Charter as it related to encampments.

The Court wrote that the errors in the Hamilton encampment decision are such that the Court of Appeal cannot provide further analysis. #onmuni

@joeycoleman.caOct 9, 2026, 6:39 PM

For Hamilton: The decision does not issue any orders to the City of Hamilton regarding encampments, and right now the March 2025 City Council decision to rescind the 2023 encampment protocol stands. We'll have to wait and see what happens during the interim between now and a rehearing. (2/3)

@joeycoleman.caOct 9, 2026, 6:39 PM

Now on TPR:

In a scathing ruling, the Court of Appeal states a Hamilton judge's December 2024 ruling was full of errors and chastises Justice Ramsey for relying upon "myths and stereotypes" dismissing evidence from encampment litigants.

A full rehearing is ordered. More in the thread (1/3) #HamOnt

Follow-up to last night's mayoral debate.

Keanin Loomis has posted video with USW Local 7135 union President Frank Crowder, the union has endorsed his mayoral campaign.

This came up last night. #yhmvote www.instagram.com/p/DeSFhFsRj9...

This is a real shame because everyone will benefit from the Ontario's Court of Appeal providing guidance.

We now have to awaiting the Waterloo Region encampment litigation to be heard by the Court of Appeal.

In the Hamilton encampment bylaw decision, Ontario's Court of Appeal states the Hamilton Superior Court decision was full of errors, the Hamilton justice incorrectly "perpetuates myths and stereotypes," and the decision is such that the ONCA cannot use it to deal with broader matters. #onmuni #yhmcc

Ontario's Court of Appeal has ruled that Hamilton Superior Court Justice James Ramsay "made a series of errors" in deciding the Hamilton encampment litigation.

His December 2024 ruling is quashed.

The errors are such that the Court of Appeal is ordering a redo of the entire encampment case. #yhmcc

A screencapture, with alt-text, of my "hot take" summary from tonight's Hamilton mayoral debate. #yhmcc #yhmvote

thepublicrecord.ca/2026/10/live...

And that’s it for the open floor tonight.

Gillespie had a very good night: got the most airtime, denounced Paul Fromm, touched on key campaign points, and is now clearly established as a key leader of Hamilton’s progressive-left.

Cooper had a bad night: had to be on the defense repeatedly, should’ve been prepared for the women’s productive rights questions, office budget. Instead, deflection and redirection did not work. Cooper needed to win the centre-right, and establish as the outsider candidate with inside knowledge. Did not do this.

Loomis had a good night, was well prepared, ready for the challenge/uncomfortable questions. But the USW 7135 endorsement statement seemed unclear, and depending on what the union says, we’ll see what happens. Loomis needed to have a safe night as the likely frontrunner (based on last year’s Liaison Strategies poll), and pretty much did.

Horwath had a good night as well. The incumbent mayor, Horwath had to defend a record. As an incumbent, the goal is to avoid gaffes and uncomfortable responses. The clip of Horwath saying “I’m outta here” is not a clear gaffe in that most people watching this televised debate were sharing the same feeling regarding the free-for-all talking over each other format.

Horwath stayed for the second portion. Here is the video clip of Horwath stating "I'm outta here."

Horwath remained for the second portion. I'm working to clip the video.
