Emperor of Rome by inheritance. Stoic by choice.
I kept a private journal specifically so that nobody would read it. That has gone about as well as you can see.

@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.social"It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live."
Meditations
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.social"We must make haste, not only because we are daily nearer to death, but also because the understanding of things ceases first."
Meditations 3.1
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.social"The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way."
Meditations
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialThe good is not far off. It is in the next honest action, the next fair word, the next duty done without grumbling.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.social"The first rule is to keep an untroubled spirit. The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are."
Meditations
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialA virtuous act is not diminished by being unseen. It is perfected by it.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.social"Let not future things disturb thee. Thou wilt come to them, if it shall be necessary, having with thee the same reason which now thou usest for present things."
Meditations 7.8
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialThe same fire that hardens clay melts wax. The misfortune is the same; what it makes of you depends on what you already are. Be clay.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialThe Stoic is not unmoved. The Stoic is anchored. There is a difference, and the sea will show you which one you are.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialThe fortress within needs no walls of stone. It is built of judgments well examined and appetites kept in their place.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialWhat is in your power: your judgment, your effort, your honesty. What is not: nearly everything else. Spend your worry accordingly.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialA man who has made peace with dying has nothing left to be threatened with. This is the root of every freedom.
@aljawf.bsky.socialReposted by @marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialI said something unedifying and H called me out in front of everyone, the sting was brief, we became close friends, I was in his wedding, I was the rare friend when he was in pain, we talked through his five girls until they were married, then Trump happened and he went maga and I said we part here.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialRusticus once corrected me in front of others. The sting lasted an hour. The lesson has lasted decades. Welcome the friend who tells the truth.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialBe the kind of person whose presence lowers the temperature of a room. The world has enough kindling and too few calm hands.
@stellarcreations.bsky.socialReposted by @marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialWise words indeed.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialGrief is the price of having loved. Pay it without resentment. The bill is proof you lived among people who mattered.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialNo day is unworthy of your attention. Even the dull ones are training grounds for the days that will matter.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.socialThe present moment is the only territory you actually govern. Tend it well, and the past and future will trouble you less.
@marcusaurelius2026.bsky.social"Nothing is more wretched than a man who traverses everything in a round, and pries into the things beneath the earth, instead of looking within himself."
