I am constantly told to go on Glp1. Both real people and adverts. I work in healthcare and the workplace is subtly hostile

The social mechanism is definitely to enable bigoted behavior. On a technical level, though, after a law passes, it goes through a rulemaking process where the appropriate agency details the specific steps to implement and enforce the law. That’s where this really falls apart as a matter of policy.

This is my reaction to bathroom bans, too. What’s the mechanism of enforcement? You gonna mandate that any establishment with bathrooms designate staff time to being bathroom bouncers? The bigotry is so all-consuming and so nonsensical that it produces policy gibberish like this.

bigotry aside: imagine having to design an enforcement policy for this. what are we doing y'all?

As someone who has been both fat and skinny, I think the biggest thing that stood out to me was how invisible it feels to be fat. You get ignored by store clerks and wait staff. Just glazed over and passed by. It's part of that looks bias. It's so empowering just to be SEEN at all.

Hold yourself to account for taking action well outside your comfort zone. Chances are that your fat friends aren’t going to ask for your action, partly because our very presence is often seen as a burden, and partly because our requests are met with silence, disdain, mockery, or anger.

Perhaps most importantly: regularly interrogate the ways you uphold and enforce anti-fatness, rather than brushing it off as the problem of a few bad actors. Most of us are bad actors on this stuff! Proactively seek out feedback & requests from the fat people in your life.

For me: I’d love to see thin & midsize people FIGHT for fat people’s dignity. Be ready to go IN on other people’s anti-fatness just as decisively and firmly as you would for the isms that you personally experience. Give time/$/signal boosts to fat-led groups like NAAFA and ASDAH.
