Depends on what you're wearing, not the guitar
It's all over at Stamford Bridge. Stop now and save 88 minutes of wasted energy
good lord how can anyone be this whiny; are you not ashamed
This is indeed really sad. And it's not as if UK-EU relations are no longer an issue. @ukandeu.bsky.social will be needed so much
Wow! Bolton calls it "unnecessary" ...
We expect the news to be bad. But not as savagely awful as this. And not worse and worse by the day.
The UN Human Rights High Commissioner said "the livestreaming of an execution is tantamount to a public execution and would breach the absolute prohibition of torture."

the paper on consensus is especially clear and sensible, with no magical thinking about how to get around a bedrock WTO principle and practice
Paraguayās papers
1ļøā£ LEVEL PLAYING FIELD, seen as targeting mainly China's industrial policy & state enterprises. Paraguay says agricultural subsidies are just as bad if not worse: docs.wto.org/dol2fe/Pages...

WTO REFORM. Now hereās a challenge. I bet the media who paid so much attention to papers from the US, China (and less-so the EU) will have nothing to say on Paraguayās new WTO reform papers. And yet they offer a lot to think about. tradebetablog.wordpress.com/2026/09/07/t...
What are the papers?
What's important is to demonstrate to the EU and its members that the decision is going to be stable or long term. A higher bar might be one way of demonstrating that, but how high would convince the EU? Are there other ways of demonstrating that?
It could give a small country like Wales a veto against the rest if it wanted to stay out of the EU while the rest wanted to rejoin. The bias is for the status quo, which is the point of a double majority. It makes change more difficult, meaning the persuasion for change has to be more solid.
In federated states, you can have a simple majority plus a majority of component states (in the UK that would be countries). But it's not the UK's way and the component countries are not even close in size.
Yes, and that's one difficulty the "rejoin" campaign faces. If the 2016 referendum can be reversed in a couple of decades, it's difficult to persuade the EU side that the result will be a long term commitment. It would need much more than a quick and simple majority vote, let alone 52-48%
It's sobering to remember that the EU and its member states will want to be sure UK opinions will not change again at whim. More than persuading a majority of UK opinion, it means a much higher quality debate so people understand, including the downsides, resulting in fewer unexpected consequences.
The 'Bendy Tree' in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, has won this yearās UK Tree of the Year contest.
It also completely misses the point that reading to your children is one of the most wonderful times you have with them, cuddling up together, and it does wonders for your wellbeing as a parent as well as the children.
TAKING STOCK OF WTO LATEST. It may be hard to keep track of developments in a busy three weeks after the WTO summer break. These are some of the main ones from the break up to this weekās General Council meeting. Reform, plurilaterals, negotiations.
This weekās WTO General Council:
6ļøā£ Next Ministerial Conference: A meeting on this might be soon but unclear if members will choose Saudi Arabia, the only volunteer to host. Some members have reservations. Next conference: 2028; 12mths needed to set up.
