Slowly removing lawn, replacing with native plants. My one small step for wildlife, climate, anxiety. Reading, learning to play the ukelele, front porch birding and nature observing. Trying to stay informed but not stressed out.
😬
I still have some lawn, though I probably wouldn’t if I was younger. I’ve spent the week cutting back plants to get ready for roofers.
That sounds like a lot of fun! I did a bit of that years ago and had a dining room table covered with stacks of magazines and bits of paper. Enjoy your hunt!
In our small suburban yard in Maryland in the U.S., we try to plant for wildlife, provide saucers of water and birdbaths all year round, and have bird feeders. Unfortunately, cats love our yard too. There are now 3 domestic cats and 1 feral cat that visit regularly. Grrr.
You could also get folding maps at the gas station. While the attendant filled your gas tank and cleaned the car windows, you could go inside and get a map.
It looks like an oil painting. Lovely.
Well, I won’t have your experience but I expect to learn some meaningful things as I read.
Thanks for the recommendation; I just borrowed The Berry Pickers from the library.
😞
I’m old now, but your haiku brought back a memory of sitting on my grandmother’s lap on the porch rocking chair, as her hands on my legs kept time with the motion. Thank you.
I guess many people aren’t old enough to remember smoggy cities and acid rain, but Trump is old enough. Sickening, literally and figuratively.
Use them up and throw them away. What an awful country we have become.

The blue mist plants spread around my Maryland garden, preferring the wet area but quite happy anywhere. It does better in dry areas than great blue lobelia.
Ugh
Thrilling! I saw one years ago in our backyard. It’s good to know they’re still around.
Public libraries are fighting book bans, funding cuts, political interference, and harassment of librarians. Meanwhile, publishers are worried that libraries are lending too many ebooks.

That’s definitely an on-going problem in the DC suburbs too.
Good action photo! Poor little mouse.
Looked under the bed to see what all the commotion was about… #catandmouse #catsofbluesky
