Our website has profile pages for #OnePlaceStudies registered with us by our members, and the OPS Directory website (not affiliated with us) aims to list all those with an online presence, though I’m not sure when it was last updated. There must be quite a few other studies ‘flying under the radar.’

Red and navy blue always a winner in my estimation and this Worth gown uses the brightest of reds to punctuate the details of their mid #1890s design. Nicely nautical for seaside promenading #NGVMelbourne #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Day 11 of #31DaysOfGraves - Humorous

It's almost impossibly not to picture Shaun the Sheep and his flock rampaging through this historic graveyard, fully armed and clad in armour, if visitors fail to heed the warning sign on the gate outside the ruined Kildalton Chapel on the Island of Islay.

A green sign is fixed to a gate with the words "Marauding sheep will be our fate if you do not close this gate" printed on it.The ruined Kildalton Chapel sits in the background, under a sunny sky with trees behind, and in the foreground sits the medieval "Thief's Cross", surrounded by iron railings. The 8th century Kildalton Cross sits in the centre of the image. A large Celtic "wheel cross", with richly carved bosses and interlacing knotwork. Other, later gravestones sit behind and it is surrounded by grass and a stone wall. A medieval graveslab showing a warrior in full West Highland style armour of the 14th-15th century and a large sword in his scabbard has been fixed to the wall for safe-keeping (perhaps from marauding sheep!)

The totally stunning ceiling in the (equally stunning room) in Bishop West’s Chantry Chapel, Ely Cathedral 😍 The detail and surviving colours are amazing! West was chaplain to Henry VII and a diplomatic envoy to Henry VIII.

In my latest blogpost I explore the gap between the elegant Huguenot community of the late 16th and 17th centuries and the poverty & deprivation of the area that would be home for thousands of Jews fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe by the late 19th century. englishancestors.blog/2026/10/11/t...

#31DaysofGraves Day 11: Humour
When Chichester diocese refused the epitaph "I told you I was ill" on the gravestone of comedian Spike Milligan (1918-2002), a solution was found in the Irish translation “Dúirt mé leat go mé breoite”.
The home of his Irish grandfather & father is marked in Sligo town.
