Ahem...

Don't forget about us - we've got a larger collection than the NLS at our chosen scales too!

As far as we can tell, because no-one has ever checked. Old boundaries have a habit of sticking around, even silly ones - here we know that the same cut-out was present in the 1918 boundary between St Marylebone and St Pancras SW constituencies, it's also in the old Metropolitan District boundary.

It appears from much earlier than that on our mapping archive - for example, it's on this Quarter Inch map from 1946:
www.sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/index.p...

But not on the same sheet from 1939:
www.sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/index.p...

It's there on all our mapping immediately post-war.

You may have noticed we've been pretty quiet recently - we've been working hard. What have we been up to? Preparing 1:25,000 historic #maps to be added to our already enormous mapping collection, and the first batch of 158 maps has been released pn #MapMonday from 1945-6. Enjoy! buff.ly/l2uXTy6

It works happily on an OpenStreetMap base map in our Co-ordinate Finder. Just put the mouse cursor where you want. Clicking will bring a little dialog box with the most common modern and archaic systems, including OSGB National Grid.

And don't forget about us too! We're the largest free online archive of georeferenced British and Irish mapping at "road map" scales in GB and IRL.

And to which we'll add that our Co-ordinate Finder is free to use, and exposes a huge range of systems, from OSGB National Grid, Irish Grid and WGS84 lat/lon to more archaic ones like the OSGB National Yard Grid. www.sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/finder/

This #MapMonday we'll leave a reminder of one of the other applications in the SABRE Maps family - the Co-ordinate Finder. Mouse over the map of GB or IRL, and get the location of that point in lots of modern and archaic co-ordinate formats. Perfect for map nerds like us! buff.ly/JraIUl8

It's very rare that such errors creep out into the world, but this is one example of how awful it can look when it does happen!

This #MapMonday sees a few more Ordnance Survey Ireland Half Inch #maps from 1971 added to SABRE Maps, with one of my favourite physical sheets. Yes, the physical map really does look like that, with the red printing layer completely misaligned to the rest of the map. buff.ly/Vx7jBc7

We take it you've found our enormous collection of thousands of georeferenced road-scale maps of the UK and Ireland?

@maps.sabre-roads.org.ukJul 29, 2026, 12:37 PM

Unfortunately we only specialise in 20th and 21st century mapping, so can't go back far enough! If it helps, I've checked the OS Old Series mapping, and there's nothing there either about a burial mound. Sorry!

It's there before then - it's also on the 1962 OS One Inch map, but not the 1960 one. You can compare the two on our Map Fader.

We are lucky to have some of the best maps in the world in our opinion in these islands.

And if you want to see loads of historic georeferenced OS maps, then we've got thousands for you!

And then to compliment it, there's also a 1971 OSI #map sheet that mostly covers NI! Would you have spotted the tiny bit of the M12 motorway without up pointing it out?

Another #MapMonday means more #maps on SABRE Maps! This week we bring 8 Half Inch maps from 1970-72. Our favourite in this batch are the western half of the OSNI Half Inch Second Series from 1970, which includes all of County Donegal as well as the western half of NI. buff.ly/0iOZSxr

#MapMonday sees more #maps added to SABRE Maps, with three more Half Inch sheets added to our 1968 layer.

A few weeks ago we complained about the 1961 Snowdon sheet not being ready for Number Six, well, he was there in 1968, and so is The Village! #ThePrisoner buff.ly/1rC4ClC

Another #MapMonday, another set of #maps added to SABRE Maps. This week's additions are 10 Half Inch maps from 1966 and 1967, mostly covering Ireland, but there's one Welsh sheet in the batch as well for you all to enjoy, completely freely. buff.ly/Wl7J8b5

It's been a really busy week for us this week, so there's just a single layer been added to SABRE Maps this #MapMonday- half a dozen Half Inch #maps from 1965 covering quite a large part of Ireland. We hope you're enjoying them!
