To coincide with World Mental Health Day tomorrow (October 10th), Mark Fowle has written a blog for us based on his excellent @histassoc.bsky.social 2026 Conference session.
His session was brilliant, as is this blog.
New data shows July was the worst on record for wildfires in England
The PM's upcoming Wildfire Summit must make “radical changes to how we fire-proof our landscapes– by restoring peat bogs, ponds and wetlands – & cut out the fossil fuels making wildfires worse”
Could see this from Hunstanton across the water on a clear day.
1. #MedievalSky, grab a lifejacket and a seasickness bag, we’re casting off on a thread about the Norman invasion fleet in 1066!
960 years ago, the Normans landed at Pevensey and established a base at the Roman shore fort which was already succumbing to erosion from the sea on its south side. 1/20
Google Earth updated the images of Gaza. It's devastating.
Wow! What an excellent set of events.
Hi #historyteacher people. I am hurtling towards PhD research deadlines and looking for any TEACHERS and PUPILS who might help out by completing a survey about GCSE American West. Aim is to explore pupil metanarratives about Indigenous peoples and US expansion. Thread has more on the surveys.

Right now the government is putting our communities, our water security and our climate ambitions second to the demands of tech giants. It's time to slam the brakes on water-guzzling, energy hungry datacentres.
Class is defo important here. Also the question is how many MPs kids will forego GCSEs/ALs? If it's not good enough for them how can it be seen to be good enough for 'our' kids. Bit cynical I know but... I am going to push and push and push though.
I'm going to be really sensible and go for exercise. You might already anyway. Do the sport/exercise you wished you'd never given up. Start again. Do it before it's too late. I went back to football in my late-40s and have now had to stop and hate that I can't play. Wish I'd gone back sooner.
'We've lost the war against global warming...' WTAF Let's just let the planet get worse so our grandkids can't live anywhere and people all over the planet die. Is this person insane!! Clearly.
Just in case you need to hear this: The Butchering Art was a fabulous book. Your writing is very engaging. I have no doubt Sleuth Hound will be just as good, if not better. I'm massively looking forward to reading it. Good luck, hope it sells by the bucket load.
I've been trying to get people to listen to me about this since I started at OCR!!
No point whatsoever.
The kids I used to teach thought it was hilarious that we had a journal about history teaching. They couldn't think of anything much worse. How wrong they were!!!
That's not quite what I would call him but I guess he is that also.
