Crime is down in Toronto — homicides at a 50-year low, shootings and robberies falling — yet most Torontonians believe the opposite is true.

Speed cameras and bike lanes gone, instead we get Temu Science Centre. If there's a malaise in Toronto maybe look to Doug Ford

"The violent contents of Van Rootselaar’s two ChatGPT accounts, detailed here for the first time, are far more extensive and disturbing than previously known." "It advised her to always frame her content as fictional or hypothetical in order to “never get flagged again” by OpenAI’s moderation"

Radar image of Tuesday's mass crane migration. A 100 km long line of migrating cranes was clearly visible on weather radar. It is estimated that around 10,000 (?) cranes were involved in that formation. The highest count observed was 26,000 migrating cranes on that day in Kangasala (near Tampere).

Freebies would be amazing. Such a good idea. I used to get the standing room tickets at Covent Garden, which were such a steal. Ten pounds, I think. And there was a railing you could lean on

@lizrenzetti.bsky.socialSep 24, 2026, 4:25 PM

that is so kind, thank you!

I agree completely. Does the COC still offer its cheap subscriptions for young people (I think under 30?) It was such a good idea

I'm going to see Donizetti next month in Berlin and I am SO EXCITED

My father grew up very poor and he adored opera. I used to go to the opera with him, where we would often disagree (notoriously over a modern dress version of Rigoletto). I still have all his old Gigli and Tebaldi LPs

@lizrenzetti.bsky.socialSep 24, 2026, 3:25 PM

Also going to the opera fucking slaps

@lizrenzetti.bsky.socialSep 24, 2026, 3:24 PM

I did a story a long time ago about the cultural barriers to what are perceived as high arts: What do I wear? What time do I show up? How do I behave once I'm in my seat? If you don't grow up attending opera or symphonies or art galleries these things are mystifying!

@lizrenzetti.bsky.socialSep 24, 2026, 3:23 PM

This is a beautiful idea. It's bound to get slammed as elitist but the barriers to arts-going are not just financial, they're cultural. If people feel opera is "not for them" they won't go.

I'm going on a three-country trip to Europe soon and we're taking trains, baby

Once our BA flight was delayed and we had to deplane into an empty Heathrow in the middle of the night with no instructions and we all followed the cabin crew like lost sheep until one of them turned around and screamed, "Stop following us!"

I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on. It's going to be a huge mess.

The federal government tabled new legislation Monday to make sweeping changes to environmental and labour rules, in Mark Carney’s latest effort to remove what he sees as barriers to development in pursuit of his pro-growth agenda.

Years of slowly building a body of laws to protect the environment and Indigenous rights cannot be allowed to be wiped out for expediency. Remembering my time as an intergovt fed when provincial enviro officials in Alberta quietly asked if 🇨🇦 could assert jurisdiction because they needed help.

Of course there's a typo in my original post. The cruel irony of being an author with no edit button (literally and metaphorically)
