Our interview touched on everything from parking benefit districts in Old Pasadena, to mixed-use zoning, to rules prohibiting new walkable retail and allowing small-lot residential housing.
We also discussed the new bus yard & direct airport transit.
Whether it translates to local votes is another question, but he made my ballot. If he wins, he’s the first openly socialist elected official in Kelowna history.
Happy thanksgiving everyone. Spending some time off the campaign trail with family.
Thanks to KelownaNow, moderator Renee Merrifield, and the Kelowna Events Centre for putting on an all-candidates interview forum. A great opportunity to connect with voters in-person and online. It’s a four-hour marathon session, good luck to all candidates still waiting for their turn.

This is great news. Keep it up Kelowna. Up 84% so far from 2022.
Keynesian response, in my mind, is quite appropriate and needed as well. I hope the City and other levels of government can stimulate the economy with long-overdue infrastructure projects like the new transit yard, and that the Province will step in and fund Cottonwoods, new RMS, 97 upgrades etc.
Kelowna unemployment rate increases, once again the highest unemployment rate in Canada. Young workers and women feeling a disproportionate share of layoffs. Will also put downward pressure on wages. Need to work on permitting reform, zoning, and competitiveness.
Thank you for your support Nina!
Meeting with students at the all-candidate BBQ at UBCO today from 12-2. Come say hi!
I 100% share your opinion but I don’t know if that is allowed in municipal power. Will need to look into it.
Watched the debate this morning. Still a giant waste of time to invite Andrew.
Very suspect when a business is directly spending money to influence voters in order to award themselves a contract renewal.
Beginning the day with a non-partisan talk at Aberdeen Hall on the importance of voting with 6th graders, then having conversations with voters in the Abbott St area, then voting, then 5pm mayoral debate (stream online), filming a GOTV with other candidates, and a climate town hall at Rustic Reel.
It's a busy first day of early voting! Make sure to get out there and exercise your democratic right (and responsibility) this election season. If you feel like waiting, you can tune in live to the mayoral debate today to better evaluate your options.
Councillor Stack has done excellent work at the Council table. He is thoughtful, intelligent, kind, and has guided council as someone who takes their high-level strategic oversight powers seriously.
I’m very grateful for his support.
Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety. (Video from ABC School Board Candidate Lina Vargas on Instagram)
Thank you Doug! I appreciate it.
I know the main headline here is PQ back in power and possibly a referendum to follow, but the 1a headline is absolutely that first past the post is not a great fit for politics in Quebec (and other provinces) at the moment.
