After years &a variety of delays (including some fun vivarium-specific effects after a move that we mostly teased oit🫠), happy this finally online! Was a fun effort stringing cells, mice and a human feeding trial along to tea up a (hopefully) translational story

AI should be the swan song of the publish or perish evaluation model in academia but I suspect we will ride this ship deep down to the trenches of the ocean.
Pretty huge dingbat
RD stands for 'Really Dumb' (for not just going to medical school)
The really sad part is physicians won't meaningfully do nutrition care - they'll use their social capital to say conflicting, non-evidence-based stuff that gets clicks & then dietitians will have to fight an uphill battle correcting that knowledge & reprioritizing evidence based recs for 1/5 the pay
Sadly, the appeal of saying 'microbiome', listing off 'anti-inflammatory' foods and seeming 'integrative' by pushing supplements is far too appealing to too many physicians eager to build a following and a brand.
If you're not learning meaningfully about food composition, metabolism, dietary assessment, prospective cohorts/RCTs and their nuanced quirks in nutrition, you shouldn't be saying too much more than repeating basics from dietary or medical nutrition guidelines & referring to experts.
The RFKJr emphasis on medical nutrition edu -> now influencer MDs cosplaying harder than ever that they're nutrition experts pipeline is noticeable. Physicians have always been intrigued by the social capital they can get from nutrition(w little interest in the data) but I fear its set to get worse.
Vitamin A has saved lives across the globe, but supplementation isn't necessary for most people.
A slate of @jhu.edu and @johnshopkinssph.bsky.social experts dive into a history of vitamin A supplementation and how it has shaped global health
For folks in Nutrition, this is both unsurprising but sad. It's yet another blip in history after Michelle Obama's last efforts to change the food system that flopped. It risks real nutrition policy continuing to be seen as a politically charged untouchable, now w a side of gimmicky wellness trend.
Whether it was artificial dye-free candy, wellness rituals, or a technofascist embrace of oversold AI, MAHA was always doomed to fail. It's a movement whose mission fundamentally required more regulation but aligned with a deregulatory administration. Capture by COI was always the natural end.
We are moments away from a MAHA revisionist history project where the movement paints itself as righteous but overtaken by the commercial forces they claimed to be against. Never forget that MAHA was led by elite profiteers with a disdain for the scientific method & zero care for population health.

Made this back in 2020 😂
2026 Teaching Slides Update Urine: a physiological matrix where biomarkers of nutritional status can be measured. Also Urine: not indicated for oral consumption or efficacious as a medical nutrition therapy in the treatment of disease.
No one could have prepared me adequately in my training as a dietitian for 2020s wellness trends
NEW: As Trump’s White House and influencers keep touting the unproven benefits of raw milk, hundreds across the country are falling ill from outbreaks.
Some people get severe indigestion.
And some nearly die.
Here's the story of one toddler who drank it.

Still kind of inconceivable how many people died or will die because of the death of USAID. And the world’s richest man did it almost as a joke
The MAHA Summit is a clear sign that it's become a shell of whatever grassroots movement it claimed to be. MAHA was always a mix of a bunch of different groups but it's pretty clear the profiteering wellness types & the extreme technofuturists are winning out (unsurprising given the MAGA alliance)
Really excellent women's health symposium here at @utoronto.ca @unityhealthto.bsky.social covering all things women's health from basic science and technologies through to clinical trials!
