Native Americans have faced and risen above tremendous challenges. Today, on #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we honor Native history and celebrate the first inhabitants of our country.
We had a great crowd at yesterday's Main Street Promise Celebration in Vancouver. The community had a vision for Main Street, and that vision has become a reality. Congratulations, Vancouver!
It was great meeting with Gabriela Whitemarsh, the 2026 Washington State Teacher of the Year. Gabriela teaches advanced mathematics in both English and Spanish and is an advocate for bilingual education. Thank you Gabriela for the lifechanging work you do with Pasco’s youth!
Tonight the Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act 77-22.
Voting in America is a right. And as Hayward Evans of the Seattle King County NAACP says, that precious right has been denied to too many in our nation’s history.
This #NationalPublicLandsDay, you can stand up for our public lands by submitting a comment in support of the Roadless Rule at www.regulations.gov/document/FS-.... We must preserve our national forests for all Americans to enjoy. (2/2)
The Trump administration is threatening to repeal the Roadless Rule, which protects some of America’s last remaining wild forests from development. (1/2)
She dedicated her life to championing communities too often left behind while mentoring the next generation of leaders. Seattle is better and stronger because of her leadership. Dolores’ friends and family are in my thoughts during this difficult time. (2/2)
Dolores Sibonga was a giant in our community whose impact and trailblazing legacy will live on. She was the first woman of color elected to the Seattle City Council and the first Filipino American to pass the Washington State bar exam. (1/2)
Powerful words from Vancouver NAACP Vice President, Rev. Michael Jones Jr.: “Voting rights in America have been expanded through struggle, not convenience. This is not just a political issue. This is a civil rights issue.”

A strong bipartisan group of Senators voted to advance discussion of college sports reforms. With the drag on higher education that athletic departments are causing, this discussion can't happen soon enough. Women's and Olympic sports need immediate shoring up.
We must rein in runaway athletics spending or face the consequences of a brain drain that threatens our global leadership in science and technology. (3/3)
We're seeing universities transfer general fund money to cover athletic department deficits, dip into endowments to sustain their general funds, and beg state legislatures for even more sports dollars. (2/3)
This report demonstrates how the unsustainable growth in spending on college sports is amplifying the broader financial pressures on colleges and universities. (1/3)
I still encourage Washingtonians to stay vigilant, vote early, and use drop boxes when possible to avoid delays in the postal system. (2/2)
This close to the election we need stability, not disenfranchisement and confusion. I’m glad a majority of the Supreme Court Justices rejected Trump’s mail-in ballot scheme that would have created chaos and denied many Americans the right to vote. (1/2)
