Today, the E.mbrace study is published in #Lancet Infectious Diseases: a vaccine against infections by #Escherichia #coli failed.
Study was similar to the CAPiTA study for a pneumococcal vaccine, only not for the outcome.

Thrilled to be presenting on the BugHub World Stage at #IDWeek2026.

I'll be sharing the story of FirstCallID, how an idea from an IDWeek discussion became a web-based infectious diseases educational resource.

Hope to see you there.

Adding ALIS to a multidrug regimen improved respiratory outcomes and culture conversion

Graph showing change in respiratory symptoms over time. Comparator arm seemed to be associated with greater improvement until off of therapy (month 13) at which point the lines cross and the ALIS arm is associated with greater symptom improvement , a difference that remains at month 15Bar graph comparing culture conversion rates between treatment arms. The ALIS arm had greater proportion of culture conversion through all time points. By month 13, the rate of culture conversion was 82.4% for ALIS (95% CI 77.2-87.6) vs 55.6% (95% CI 48.9-62.3), a treatment difference of 26.8% (95% CI 18.3-35.3%), p<0.0001

A retiring physician doesn't just hand over charts.

They hand over years of trust, history, and responsibility.

I think 2020 was supposed to be San Diego. My understanding is there are only certain cities IDWeek can go to given need for the size of the conference center & international airports, so it tends to be a rotation of the same places. Smaller conferences have a lot more flexibility on location

Encourage you to listen to (or read as I did) this interview with a legend in ID talk about how to use the new SAB guidelines and what is coming next potentially. Coming off service this last week, will add it was interesting thinking about SAB in this new paradigm. More eligible for 2 weeks

My second #ELSO2026 and exciting to see all of the collaborators/thought leaders moving the field forward.

Talking with clinicians at different centers, with the lack of evidence, practice patterns are drastically different and there is a need for #IDSky research in these critically ill patients.

Can't say I used it/needed it much, but definitely like having options available in MDR infections and now we have one less :/

Bad news for patients with MDR infections…

Merck has announced that imipenem/relebactam supply will be discontinued in US by the end of September.

Guess this will extend to Europe soon?

We definitely need new payment models for antibiotics 🙁
