So it is vital Defra understands this and protects these partnerships for the sake of our future generations.
#Farming #Devon #Somerset
I have today written to Defra alongside my colleague Ian Roome MP to urge the Government to protect repeat farm visits for children and young people. Farm visits connect young people with the countryside, improve their understanding of food production and support their wellbeing.
It was also lovely to meet Bodi, who has previously won the prestigious Curry Rivel Junior Trophy from the Somerset Small Bore Shooting Association. I learnt that Arlen, another club member, won it the following season! Thank you to everyone at the club for having me.
I recently met with members of Williton Target Shooting Club to hear about their fundraising campaign for a new clubhouse. The club wants a modern space including disabled facilities and classrooms as they hope it will be somewhere younger people and the wider community feel welcome to join.
My constituents cannot be treated as an afterthought just because they live off the gas grid. Heating oil must be regulated with the same protections as mains gas and electricity. Ministers must introduce an emergency price cap now before another winter of soaring energy bills unfolds.
Liberal Democrats have fought for years to put off-grid rural communities like mine in Tiverton and Minehead on the agenda. While the Government has finally woken up and acknowledged the heating oil rip-off faced by millions, this is classic too little, too late.
At the Public Accounts Committee, I asked Harry Metcalfe, owner of Harry's Farm, what one thing the Government could do to support farmers.
It has been made extremely clear that if Defra wants to be fit for purpose, it needs to start listening to our farmers.
I'm delighted to announce that Liberal Democrat members from across the constituency have unanimously reselected me as their candidate for the next election. Being your MP is the greatest honour of my life. I'm extremely proud of everything my team and I have achieved in just over two years.
I'm proud to represent a constituency that is home to amazing innovation and world-leading businesses. Too often, rural communities are overlooked or forgotten when, in reality, they are ahead of the game. It's about time the Government started listening to them and learning from them.

Stay tuned! Plenty more dates coming for November.
Last month I wrote to the Government to raise concerns about the frequent closures of Tiverton Urgent Treatment Centre. Here is their response. I have to say how disappointing it is to hear that this Gov isn't prepared to take further steps to ensure a rural community like...(1/2)
The Liberal Democrats are the last line that my constituency and this country have against a Reform Government. I stand with my Party and my Leader, who led us to the best ever election result in our party’s history. I fully back him to lead us into the next General Election.
We need more than just slogans for rural Britain.
I recently sat down with Deiniol Brown from Politics UK for their new Green Benches series. We spoke about a range of topics, including the Prime Minister's plans for rural communities like ours.

In a rural and coastal area like ours, geography, poor transport links and difficulty reaching specialist healthcare can make support harder to reach.
Thank you to everyone in the room for your commitment to people living with dementia and those who care for them. đź’›
Thank you to The Filo Project for the opportunity to speak at the Devon Dementia Conference. Dementia is a human challenge as much as a healthcare one. I suspect nearly every family has been touched by it in some way, and mine is no exception.
Corridor care has hit a record high, and winter hasn't even started yet. In September, an average of more than 3,300 patients a day were treated in A&E corridors or on wards without a proper bed space. That's almost 100,000 times in a single month. 🧵
