The last time the USWNT played Spain, the late Grant Wahl wrote about the US struggles in the midfield.
“The U.S. midfield is a huge concern and needs a formation change now.”

"Deshaun Watson really struggling with this Jets defense today" "sure is Jim, seems like he's once again being haunted by his lifetime of sins out there"
If NFL broadcasters are going to treat Deshaun Watson being ok at QB as a sign that he has been Redeemed For His Past, they must remain ideologically consistent. If he starts playing badly again they have to blame it on his failure to repent for his heinous sexual misconduct

I’ve never seen this premier league desk get so heated????
If I didn't believe already for Spirit reasons and USWNT reasons that Audi Field is cursed, the playing of Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl (featuring Sabrina Carpenter) during the postgame has sealed it for me
If you think Heaps' leadership is the most important thing you have to drop Yohannes, and if you think Yohannes' passing is the most important thing you have to drop Heaps. Playing them together is just putting up a big neon sign that says "transition fast through the center."
Oh that is the hair-pulliest hair pull
Relevant debate around the midfield. My two cents are, if you're being opened up, moved around and ran at, a more defensive-minded profile in there helps Heaps has always been capable with front-foot pressure. Back foot coverage and defending faced up is always a different proposition
Yohannes stutter-step denied. Spain keep a 2-0 lead.
Millennial USWNTers imma need you to lock in
Ashley Sanchez is among 3 USWNT subs getting instructions at the bench. Spain have 3 subs of their own who have been ready to sub on for like 3 minutes now.
Credit where it's due: much better from the USWNT since halftime, as their adjusted, higher press is really giving Spain fits. IMO the starting 11 & the lack of preparedness in defensive transition is on the coaches, but they've also clearly made smart adjustments to their structure to set this up.
objection your honor the goal was very cool
When the analyst ask Julie Ertz what the team needed to do I was hoping she’d tear off the coat to reveal she was fully kitted and ready to go in.
welp
Another reason to ban AI is that it hasn't figured out a way to clone, like, three more Tierna Davidson's, at best.

2-0 to Spain at halftime. Will be very interested to see what changes are made at halftime.
Fundamentally saying “we’ll get Heaps and Yohannes on the ball and win control of tempo” makes no sense to me when smash things move fast still feels like the best way to get Spain out of rhythm
Sophia Wilson does not miss by much. A goal would be very nice to have before halftime!
Emma pls
