Taking a leisurely stroll through my vinyl record collection to share a few of my favourite Jamaican tunes and trivia, just like I used to do a few years ago in the House of Reggae podcast... https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/houseofreggae

And here's the deep dub version.

This was played by the Twelve Tribes band, which consisted of Junior Dan on bass, Albert Malawi on drums, Sangie Davis on guitar and Pablove Black on keyboard...

Not that I want to add to your 'wants' list, but if you don't have it, their debut LP, Same Song, is very good. It's been regularly reissued too.

Happy 71st birthday to Lascelle 'Wiss' Bulgin, the last surviving member of Israel Vibration.

Here's their excellent debut single from 1977, which was funded and produced by Hugh Boothe from the Twelve Tribes Of Israel...

There's certainly more going on in that mix and it probably sounds the best of the 3 when played loud. 😁

It's interesting listening to all 3 versions back to back. It was obviously an important song for him, but to my ears I think I prefer the stripped back original. Bit like with Dylan and Mississippi. My favourite version is the original take for TOOM on Tell Tale Signs. πŸ‘Œ

Joseph Hill wasn't happy with the release of the Africa Stands Alone LP..

He soon recorded two more versions of Innocent Blood for the Cumbolo and More Culture LPs...

Yes, he was so expressive and a great lyricist too.

That was the original version of Innocent Blood that Culture recorded at Harry J studio in 1978.

It was included on the Africa Stand Alone LP along with Love Shines Brighter, which is on the B side of this single.

Yes, this was the first version of Innocent Blood. They re-did it the following year for the Cumbolo LP.

Nearly 800 people were killed or executed in Morant Bay, Jamaica in October 1865.

Over 100 years later, Joseph Hill wrote this powerful song about two of those who were executed, Paul Bogle and George William Gordon...

I just checked out the LP chart for this week in '76 as well... Some classic albums on there too...

Very nice. It's not one I knew of before. Must have been one of Alton's earliest UK productions.

I think it was more often crates than boxes. If you want an authentic soundman look, try the local fruit market! πŸ˜‚

You'd probably need a 1950s 78rpm carrying case for that. Some do still exist, but hard to find in good condition.
